20 gallon equipment

Hey guys!

I'm looking for suggestions for what equipment I'll need to start a 20 gallon planted freshwater aquarium. I know I'll need a filter, heater and thermometer along with the lighting and like other stuff however I'm not sure which ones would be the best (I'm planning to keep basic beginner fish like cardinal tetras, neon blue dwarf gouramis, or albino aeneus cory cats if that has any impact)

Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions of some great equipment you've used before! thanks!

 

You've pretty much got the basics. Is it a 20g long (30" by 12" by 12") or 20g high (24" by 12" by 16")

 

I'm trying to find a 20 gallon high but might have to settle with a long one in the end. I have no idea why it's kinda difficult to find a a high one around me atm :/ but I'm still looking

A 20g long is going to give you more options in the end.

 

Alrightly then, maybe I'll end up going with a long one, I thought a high one would be better but I guess not lol thank you

 

In a 20g long I'd recommend
8-12 Neon Tetras
2-3 Honey Gouramis (1m/2-3f)
10 Corys

 

Water conditioner (I suggest Prime)
Possibly Seachem Excel & Flourish if you're keeping live plants. (Excel is co2 supplement, Flourish is the food).
Food for your fish (sinking pellets for the Cory's). Hikari has some good ones.
Test Kit (API Master Test Kit).
API Quick Start if you haven't cycled your aquarium.
