Hello,

Sooo I was watching something interesting today. My 2 female cichlids were "mating". One would lay eggs, and as soon as they came out, another female would pick them up and they'd do their mating dance like a Male and female do. Obviously the eggs didn't get fertilized, but I'm wondering how common this is and if it's just inexperience on their part. The female that picked them up is still holding them 6 hours later.

How positive are you that they're both female?

The only other explanation is the a mail picked up the eggs as soon as the female lead them and is holding them currently. I've done a lot of research and it seems unlikely that a male would hold the eggs for any extended amount of time
