2.5 gallon cover

I'm thinking about buying a 2.5 gallon for my beta. He looks miserable in his unfiltered, tiny 1 gallon fish bowl however I only have one concern wit the 2.5 gallon. You can only buy the 2.5 gallon tank itself, it doesn't come with the top cover. Would it be okay for me to leave the top open, or would that prove to be problematic? The fish bowl my betta is in doesn't have a top, and he seems to be fine...

Bettas do need need covers as they are know jumpers.Instead of getting a 2.5 which imo is way to small for a betta try fo find a 5 gallon and have it filtered with a heater

Strange that the 2.5 doesn't come with a top. They should... PetSmart sells them with the tank and glass top. But really, for the price, you could get a 10 gallon at WalMart.

haha yeah, the 2.5 and 10 gallon are both the same price, but I don't have room in my house for a 10 gallon... oh sorry, I forgot to mention in my post that I do have a 10 gallon filter and a heater already. all I need is substrate, decorations, and a top..??

You can buy a hood for the 10gal at Petco, I don't remember if Petsmart carries glass hoods for a 10gal or not. The 2.5s at Petsmart do come with tops as AkarI said, they are inside the tanks on the shelves.

The 2.5 gallons at Petsmart come with a lid. At first glance they don't appear to, but that's because it's a piece of glass and is sold laying in the tank bottom

A ten gallon filter would be a lot for a 2.5g. I would go with an air powered corner filter. They sell for very little on Amazon (search lees economy filter). You'll need a small air pump, filter floss, and a small amount of biomedia.

Have you checked Craigslist.org? You can often score big on there! I've seen 100+ gallon full set ups (fish included!) going for $100, and full 5 gallon set ups going for just $15.

ahhhhh! turns out it DOES come with a cover. it's actually a glass canopy so from the picture it looked like it didn't come with a top. sorry for wasting your time guys.. :/

LOL Its ok!

I would still recommend checking out Craigslist, and seeing if you can find a 5 gallon for around the same price

I have the same 2.5 gallon tank on my desk @ work. It's been running on and off for over 13 years! I've kept a trio of White Clouds in it, several different bettas, and now, I have a pair of sparkling gouramis. I use a Small World cartridge filter and a piece of plexI glass for a cover. Since it sits on my desk above two PCs, and between 4 monitors, it runs @ 82* no heater needed!

I got a 75 gallon with a wrought iron stand and a screen lid for $90. It's home to three male garter snakes. One of my boys really wants a rainbow shark and is trying to convince me the garters would be happy in something smaller!

I used to use a piece of black plastic canvas! It was getting a little too much mineral buildup in the holes. When I had to remove the cover, the deposits kept falling off on my desk! I think the solid lid is why my temps are up too.
