1st 25% With Fish Question??

I'm sure this sounds kinda dumb but I don't want to harm these fish. I plan on doing a 25% water swap tomorrow and was wondering about the conditioner ya add to get the chlorine safe. If I add it to the first gallon at the recommended dose for what water I'm adding back into the tank. Will that be okay? I guess I'm just concerned about dumping untreated water into the tank even though I've put the correct amount of conditioner in with the first gallon. Does it all balance out or should I treat each gallon with some conditioner first. Then add it.
Search around but couldn't find the answer to my question. As I've been reading along here on the forum. I'm learning that simple mistakes cause major problems sometimes and I would like to avoid that if possible. Thanks

Hi! Welcome to Fishlore!

When I do a water change, I add in the dechlorinator as I am adding the water. The most important thing is matching the water temperature within a few degrees. Best of luck with your fish!

After you take out your 25%, use your declorinator and treat the tank. Dose for the whole tank size instead of the amount of water your replacing, ie: 75 gallon tank, dose for 75g. Then add your new water and your good to go

Awesome. Thank you for the replies. That makes it simple enough. Throw n go sounds good to me.

I do all of my water changes with buckets. I treat each bucket of water before I pour it in the tank. Folks that use a python type system for water changes add enough conditioner to treat the full volume of the tank to the tank before refilling. With buckets I just add enough conditioner to treat each bucket.

If you plan on adding any water that hasn't been treated before pouring it in there be sure to turn your filter off first to prevent any chlorine from being pulled through it.

Now that's one I never thought of. That would kill everything. Thanks for the heads up.
