I saw a 180 gallon saltwater tank with a homemade wooden stand for sale, comes with one pump and some rock (potentially live rock?)
Is this a good deal??
Also could a salt water tank be scrubbed out and used for fresh water?

That’s hard to say. Yes you can clean it to be freash water. But is it worth 700. Nothing too impressive with the stand and how old is the tank. Does it need to be sealed? Waters down about 6” why? Not a lot of 180s sold used. How much is new? Nothing worse than a used tank leaking after you set it up.

I don’t know, if in good condition it might be worth it, I suppose a new one that size would cost a few thousand? But as 86 ssinit said there could be issues like leakage and scratches. You could build one from scratch for a lot less, but with quite a lot of work and time…

I don’t think glass would cost a few thousand. I’m guessing under a thousand. Making a stand about $300.

No, that is what I meant, making one would cost much less, we paid $220 for the glass and slilicon for our approx 223 gallon tank. We already had wood for the stand but bought some plywood and misc small things like stain and varnish, and some water piping for the plumbing. The total cost so far is well under $500. Just got to make the top and lighting now.
