15 Gallon Pond Stocking Ideas

Hey all,

I currently have my “pond” stocked with guppies, shrimp and filled with plants (guppy grass, salvinia, anubias, frogbit). This pond is heated at a constant temp of 78 degrees and also is running a sponge filter. Planning on moving away from guppies very soon after my fry have all grown out. I was wondering what would be good to stock this so called pond with? I can only see from the top of the pond so that could be something to take into consideration.

15 gallons will be pretty limiting in terms of a centerpiece fish, but you've got options.

A betta, a gourami (or a trio of some of the smaller varieties), or some small schoolers (rasboras, maybe?) would be a good fit.

Actually, a betta might be ideal here, as they're pretty interactive top-dwellers who are likely to respond when you show up. If a top-down view is all you'll be getting, having something that will respond to you will be more engaging that something on the shy side.

Also, good luck netting out every single guppy fry! :D

Thanks! I could definitely use the good luck. The first time I netted out all of my guppies was such a pain.

I do have a betta that wouldn’t mind having a 15 gallon so we will see where that goes.

Ricefish are a really good top fish and a good option for a 15 gallon.

Unless you're getting away from all livebearers, some brightly colored platies would be fun.

Bettas or dwarf gouramis would be nice IMO. But like someone else said I would research for fish that are active and would come to you when you are close so you are able to interact and see them.
