14 gallon tank

I have 2 tanks. Set up right now. My 14 gallon has a play and 3 Cory cats. My 50 gallon has 2 tiger oscars, a jack dempsey, and a convict. I understand that it is crowded. The JD and the convict do not leave their caves except to eat. The JD is about 5 inches long. Since he doesn't swim around in the tank do you think it would be fine to move him into the 14 gallon tank and move the fish from the 14 gallon to a 10 gallon. Maybe if he was by himself he would come out more. I hope to get a bigger aquarium for the oscars this summer.

I personally wouldn't put a JD in a 14G for anything other than an emergency hospital in the absence of a larger QT.

Hopefully more members with cichlid experience will chime in.

A 14 gallon tank would just stress him more. A 14 gallon tank can not support the bioload of a JD. Let him hide in the 50 gallon. If he isn't getting picked on he should be ok.

the jack must be a female if so she will be ok in the small tank for a while. A male will be very depressed alone, and he would lose colour and become dossile.

I have to disagree with all of that. I've kept my male alone with no issues. Putting a 5" JD in a small tank will do more harm than good. If it isn't being beaten up by the Oscars then there's no point to moving it.
