$14.95 Us For Api Freshwater Master Test Kit

I went to Amazon to order some more API Nitrate Test Kits because, let's face it, that is what I use the majority of the time. On the bottom bar it had the Master Test Kit with the Amazon Choice banner on it saying it was $14.95. $14.95!!! Is that what everyone has been paying for it? I took one of the nitrate tests out of my cart and put the master kit in (I do go thru the motions of taking ammonia and nitrite levels monthly). My last Master I got for $26 dollars and I thought that was a deal.

This deal has been going on for a few weeks at least. A member posted a thread telling others of this a bit ago and the price hasn’t changed since.

I got my first kit for $25-ish. I was running out of ammonia tests so I picked up a 2nd kit for $22. Then it dropped to $19.99.

Did you notice the expiration date? lol...I'm just trying to figure out why it is so cheap.

Expiration date is listed as 2023. I was skeptical of that as well, but everything checks out.

I bought one on amazon for $18 a few months ago. The expiration date is in 2023.

The price is at 14.20 now. Maybe they lower it by 1% every time someone buys it?

Let's hope so! I'm not going to argue about my paying $14.95 vs $14.20. Maybe some college students or high school students who couldn't justify it before will bite the bullet and get it. (I was there, wouldn't pay $30 for a kit when the store tested for free. That was 2 cases of beer. lol)

Mine sells them for $30, which I can't justify even if I do enjoy supporting them as a business.

I like my lfs too but most of their non fish items are so expensive. And most of their fish are platys and mollys.

I hear you. I will pay more at my LFS to support a small local business who hires youth from the area, but I won't go overboard on it. I think the last time I priced their PraziPro it was $30 dollars a bottle. I'm not doing that. Most things that are like $5 to $7 over, I will buy. We all have to be smart with our money. God knows these tanks will need something new and sooner than expected.

I have one question. How do you use a test kit up before it expires? I have had one now about a year and a half and have used it 4 times.

Prazipro for $30? My lfs sells prazipro for something like $12-18. Their fish medicine is pretty cheap but other fish items are usually expensive

Online is definitely the way to go for non-fish items in my experience I haven't found much that's cheaper locally than online. Fortunately my LFS has a great selection of fish and well cared for as well.

Agreed. I just had my Jager fail on my 120, just stopped heating even though it's only been running for a month and a half. Couldn't wait for one to ship because the tank was down to 64 degrees or so, so I had to dish out $40 for a new heater. Always something to be done with the tanks haha.

I don't know who does their pricing, but it is really weird. It seems like the things I can't get at petco or petsmart have prices that are off the charts just because if people need something, they need something. Waiting a week for shipment of some meds could mean that your fish are already dead. I don't know where their mentality lies, but I think that may be it. Some fish are ridiculously cheap. As I said this weekend. I paid $1.50 for habrosus cories (Normally $2) They are $5 everywhere you look. They don't have them at the chains, most of them are online so add shipping over that cost. Pygmaeus for the same price but I already have all of the pygmies I want. I had been looking for salt and peppers.

I don't know. 16 tanks...shrimp and overstocked mbuna tanks tested twice a week. Not a habit there, a NECESSITY. Never use the pH. Doesn't change. I run out of nitrate all the time. Since I do use the ammonia and nitrite after a filter cleaning for a few days, that gets used up before it's expiration date. The only things I throw out because of expiration are pH and medications. (I've stopped buying medications. I know where I can get everything within 2 hours now)

That is similar. I'm glad I didn't pay $17 for 3 from aquatic arts plus their $98 shipping (slight exaggeration...slight) for something I got for $4.50 at the LFS. (Bias post because I am not happy with AA. last shipment came in a Seacrest Farms box. If I wanted to buy from Seacrest Farms, I would go to PetCo or Petsmart and save the exorbitant shipping cost. None of those fish are still alive. I even have a credit I have never used because I don't want their fish)

Do you know how many miles away you are from them? I’m around 600 miles from brownsburg indiana

I got my C aeneus for $2 ea on sale from $4. I was picking up some CPDs because PetCo had them for $3.50 ea which is half off the cheapest place I've seen anywhere. While I was there, they had C pygmaeus for 99¢ ea so I had to get a dozen (he gave me 14 but 2 didn't make it in QT).

I still have over $100 store credit at a LFS that I sold my EBA to but they haven't had anything I really wanted and their hard goods that I want/need are way overpriced. Besides, I'd rather use it for livestock.

Yep. I could pick them up. Anything sent to me gets there the next day. Shrimp they will send 2nd day. It gets to me next day. Even the shrimp died. Over $7 for 1 dream blue shrimp. All died. I saw they were not doing well and ordered immediately from some man on aquabid. I now have over 70. I guess I am so angry because I recommended them to several people here. With over $500 spent, I have nothing to show for it. I do better at PetCo. Fortunately my LFS has breeders of some of the more unusual fish so my tanks are stocked and stable. I do still feel bad if someone took my suggestion because they had such a good reputation before their expansion. (I know, small business just trying to make ends meets. I get it, but stil....)
