Hello, I recently had the bulb burnt out in my pond canister filter. It's actually being used as an aquarium filter.

It came with a 9w bulb but I ended up buying a 13w bulb to replace it. It still fits in the g23 base.

Can I power the 13w UV C bulb in the fixture that had a 9w before?

Or should I play it safe and just order a second 9 w bulb.?

Ok thanks. I wondered if I posted this is the wrong spot. I meant to post it in the filters section.

Also, I have found a website that sells various types of ballast so I may see if I can disassemble the ballast housing on the filter and change it myself. At this point I'm fairly certain the ballast designed for 9w will not work with 13w. I had even gone to great lengths to special order a longer tube for the filter from a UK pond equipment supplier.. but that was silly. The longer tube would allow to fit the longer 13w UVC light.

I should have just ordered a 9w bulb and been done with it.

I may try to upgrade the ballast and use my fancy expensive quarts tube from the UK though. Actually the tube wasn't too costly but the shipping made little more. It should only cost me $10 more for the correct ballast so why not?
