13 year old goldfish dead and it’s eye is strange

I got 2 goldfish in 2009, they have loved eachothers company over the years and today sadly one died. After changing the tank I assumed from the photo below with the small scratch line that the cat was able to get a claw in and unfortunately kill it. One thing I found strange is the eye, is anyone able to tell me what this is.

What size/type of tank are they in? It should be properly covered and a cat shouldn’t be able to get in.

usually means it had been dead for a while. the white in the center is the actual eye "ball"

as an Asian, we eat the eyes too, and they have a solid white ball inside the eye. at the grocery store if we buy dead fish, we look at the eyes to see how fresh or not fresh the fish is.
