125 Cut Down!

What's up everyone, so doing my usual searching on offer up/ craigslist for free stuff I came across a free 125! Ya totally free I just had to pick it up, so here is what I am thinking, I just bought my house and my wife is giving me a "designated" fish tank spot (I def have mts haha!) but my allowed spot is to small for a big 125 so I'm thinking about cutting it down to fit the spot. I would be cutting it down length wise from 72" to 45" when its all said and done it would go from a 125 gallon to approximately 84 gallons. What do u guys think and what would you put in it? I'm leaning toward a really clean bare bottom discus tank but just looking for ideas/ has any cut a tank before?

Instead of cutting it (which seems like a lot of work, and it seems like a lot could go wrong with bracing, etc.), why not just get a 75 gal?

Or entice her to believe it will enhance another part of the house?

Ya I might be able to trade it for a 75 gallon I guess, I feel like I should mention I'm a glazer by trade so cutting glass and making the euro bracing would not really be that big of a deal

If you feel comfortable doing it, then try it! I'd try to make the length at least 48" though, longer if you can.

What will you cut the width to?

I would leave the width the same, and ya I think I'm gonna give it a try half the fun of fish keeping for me is the diy part of it!

Awesome! What are you going to make the width? If you can go longer, you should do it! The discus would appreciate the extra length (48" minimum), but a custom length tank could be really neat!

48" would be a really tight fit in my space but I'm still doing my discus research I'm an experienced fish keeper but only in keeping planted community tanks so starting a discus tank is really exciting
