3 is a bad number for angels. I'll let someone else discuss the rest since I'm no expert on cichlid aggression.

Ok maybe 2 angels?

Also what other fish do you recommend with these guys? Any bottom dwellers the rams wont bother? And south American fish that would look great with them?

I would stick to 1 angel with the knowledge the festivum may not get along with it. I would not do a blood parrot in this tank either. 3 is a bad number for gbr as well. Stick to two or 4 but if you do 4 I would not do apistos

As for a bottom dweller I'd go with a couple of hoplo cats or a single raphael.

Hmm, so it seems making a mixed cichlid tank might not work out....

It's possible. Just depends on what you mean by a mixed cichlid tank. To me 3-4 species of cichlids is a mixed cichlid tank

Ok, so I could do like 3 severums, some apistos, rams and maybe festivums?

Ok what if I did this:
3 Severums
2 Festivums
1 Angel
2 GBR
2 Apistos

I couldnt incorporate a blood parrot into this?

So then, it would be pretty hard to make a mixed cichlid tank?
If you want a peaceful tank, some central and African cichlids are very aggressive. That's why they are usually the ones to make up a cichlid only tank without smaller fish. Most often, smaller community fish are mixed in with docile SA cichlids like angelfish and rams/apistos. Others like severum and acara aren't terribly aggressive, but would be better with large fish or cichlid- only.

The west African kribensis (and maybe butterfly cichlid, never kept them) are quite suitable for a community tank as well IMO. Other central African cichlids are very aggressive and would make short work of smaller fish. These tanks are often overstocked as well to spread territorial aggression.

Sorry I missed the rest of the posts after this.

So, a cichlid only tank would be better for SA cichlids too? Maybe I should just try either big cichlids or dwarf cichlids, do you think that would work better? If I only mixed severums with like festivums and geophagus or other larger cichlids.

Yes, I think it could work. You can never be sure of a particular cichlid's behavior. Some might have to moved if they are too aggressive. I've even had a very aggressive angelfish baby that I had to rehome right away on his own because he chewed the dorsal down on two of his siblings. I also only keep docile cichlids that don't destroy planted tanks or eat smaller community fish like tetras.

Another option to go with larger cichlids is the EB acara. They are beautiful. And just remember geos are earth eaters (they sift the sand) and require a school of 5/6 to be happy.

Geos do better with their own kind. You could do a group of bandits with a severum. Or you could try a group of tapajos with a severum. Again I'm assuming it's a 5 foot tank. But I don't think that's going to leave you room for any other cichlids. Bottom dwellers and dithers would still be an option.

3 wouldn't be a good number for severums abd I wouldn't do a keyhole with a bp. If you wanted the bp is stick with two sevs and 2 acaras (I'm assuming you mean the electric blues... Standard blues might be an issue)

Ok, so then even the small geos wouldn't be an option?

I don't think 3 is a good number for any cichlid. Stick to 1,2,4 or more. There is a lot of advice and options here, bit I think the geos are fine as long as they are kept in a group with severum and EB acara.

I may be corrected, let's see....

I do! With a tank that size, you can, so why not? Other fish can be kept in smaller aquaria.

You could have smaller fish with docile SA cichlids. Like add angelfish, rams or apistos to fish like tetras, pencilfish, small plecos. I guess I'm saying that because that's what I have lol.

Ok for another stocking list how about this:
4 Severums
2 Blue Acara
1 Blood Parrot
5 Geos
Dither Fish: (Not sure how many I could have)
Maybe 1 or 2 Gouramis
Could I have cories?
1 ABP
Some platies?

Does that sound alright?
