11 fish die in less than 24hrs!

HI Everyone,
My name is Ksy (kasey) my husband has worked for several retail stores in the fish/reptile department. He is very smart when it comes to anything related to fresh water and salt water tanks. However, he told me today that 7 of our fish had died. 3 neons, 1 tetra, a long fined white algae eater and something else. That was about 10 hours ago. He is at work and I found 2 more dead neons and out otherae eater. He checked all of the chemicals and does a weekly water change. None of the fish have been sick nor have they had any signs of sickness. They are literally dropping dead by the hour! I was looking at the plants....they look rather brown as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on? No sick fish, no foreign objects (bugs, soaps ect) nothing out of the ordinary except to loose 11 fish in under 24 hrs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

What's the temp running at? Could be a heater malfunction

What are the parameters? I don't think we can be of any help without knowing Temperature, pH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate.

Welcome to Fishlore! I'm sorry to hear for your loss! As this is your first post please forgive me for asking dumb questions as I'm not fully aware of your (or his) personal experience with fishkeeping. I assume your aware of the Nitrogen cycle? We need to know Temp, Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. It is prefered to test these with a liquid test kit as the strips tend to not be correct. Also inside the tank, from the gravel to the decorations, anything oddball in there? Like natural rocks from outside or anything? Was any spray on or near the tank or on things inside of it? Is this city or well water? Did you happen to forget to use a water conditioner before adding fish? (I ask that since you said the plants seemed brown). Also how long has this tank been set up? How were the fish acclimated to the water? Also do you have an air stone? What size is this tank?

Was there any signs of disease on the fish? Such as pin conning or red gills?

With the info you have provided it I cannot say anything for sure at all :/

EDIT: Oh another thing, since your husband works at a store with fish its some-what important to keep in mind cross contamination. Such as treating a fish with Dropsy at work then going home and feeding the fish tank at home.
