10 Gallon Tank 10g journal

recently i revamped my 10g which previously had a gardneri killi colony. I have big plans for this tank in the near future and I thought it’d be nice to share!

here is the last remaining killi of the colony, i’m guessing he’s a 3rd or 4th gen.

here’s the new scape! the roots you can see are from a big pothos plants and there is also some xmas moss, rotala and hornwort in there. all of them but the rotala are clippings from my goldie tank where the hornwort especially didn’t do well

as you can see i used fluval stratum substrate and some seriyu stones. I love the colours in the tank, I think they all balance very well.

This week I plan to buy some carpeting plant (thinking dwarf hairgrass, but throw some other suggestions at me! I want slightly less demanding plants than the hairgrass seeing as I have no CO2 system in here :/) I also want to have some anubias, maybe attached to one of the stones. once the stems grow in for the rotala and hornwort clippings I’m hoping the tank really pops!

later on when the parameters have settled a bit more i also plan on buying two or three croaking gouramis and a bunch of darwin algae shrimp and rcs plus a nerite.

any feedback on my tank is greatly appreciated! hope you like it

pretty sure they're not widely available outside Australia, being a native species, so you could be forgiven

yesterday I got 3 shrimp and a bunch of plants (limnophilia, ambulia, HC). There is a bit of a bacterial bloom but everything is doing well so far. two of the shrimp have already molted.

I also backed the aquarium with some white cardboard to make everything pop a little more.

there’s still a bacterial bloom, the water has been clearer.

did some trimming and water changing yesterday. the bacterial bloom has mostly cleared. the gouramis were croaking last night, unfortunately i didn’t get any video, but it was very cool to hear in person.

Wow I’ve never heard sparkling gouramis called croaking gouramis before. But I also didn’t know that they croaked! I’m sure they’re fun to have around. I like seeing how the plants have grown in in this thread and what you’ve done with them.
