10 Gallon Tank Recommendations For Betta

hey ya’ll
I know I’m very extra but I want to set up my betta in a ~10 gallon tank (with live plants) do y’all have any recommendations for an aquarium? He’s a half moon and not the strongest swimmer but he does love to move! He’s currently in a 5 gallon fluval chI and I love the look of it but I feel like he’s cramped. I went to the store and all I could find was the aquarion 15 g column and I’m concerned about the filter and that he won’t be able to hang out at the top (and blow bubble nests) like he occasionally likes to do now.

I’m an idiot. I see it now in your post lol. Um, I’d personally go cheap but that’s totally up to you. I don’t have much experience with different tanks

Yeah I’m just worried about the current from the filter and which tank wouldn’t make too much of one for him otherwise I would go cheap!

Personally, I’d do the dollar per gallon sale at Petco right now. Then (if it were me) would add a filter( a quiet flow or aqua clear are my favorites) (with the cycled media in your Fluval chi) add a thermometer (really any kind, even your current one may work.) Then, I’d get a few appropriate tank mates. As for the filter flow, the aqua clear and quiet flow have worked well for me, but if it’s to strong for your betta, you can use an intake sponge.

Personally, and I mean this is just my opinion, I'm NOT and expert!.... I'd avoid a column.. it's tall and narrow? Bettas are largely surface fish; they come to the surface regularly to gulp air and prefer to rest on leaves or wood or rocks or the substrate. A column means less surface area (less opportunity for oxygenation and requiring more current for circulation), less area for the Betta, and longer swims to the surface.

My rule of thumb is the greater the length and width the better.. fish swim across not up and down..

I've got a Crowntail Betta in a 55 gallon community and I've struggled to create enough flow throughout the tank while keeping surface turbulence to a minimum for him... I think I finally have it situated after 3 weeks I think... And he seems pretty happy now.

That sale ends tomorrow!

You could always do the dollar per gallon at petco get a beautiful tank and filter it with a sponge filter. They don't create very much current at all.

Whoops! I didn’t realize it ended tomorrow!
The good news:
the OP has an entire day to get the tank!

I used a cup to cover the outflow of my topfin HOB filter and it works AMAZING! I know walmart has 10 gallon tanks for like $13 but PetCo is having the dollar per gallon sale (ends tomorrow). Then you could get either black diamond blasting sand or black or white gravel, up to you. For plants my (3) soon to be like 5 betta LOVE amazon sword, Frogbit, Rotala, And Guppy grass. it would be cool if you got one of those castle decorations, one of those bridge things, and driftwood.

Yep, I used a gatorade bottle cutting to baffle my filter flow, but now I use sponge filters.

That’s crazy!
If that’s the case, I’d try to buy off of craigslist and find a used one. Best if luck!

I just took A Plastic cup cut it how I needed it and then sanded it down

I've also seen the "plastic water bottle" fix on HOB filters.. on mine I used some bio-foam wedged between the walls and lid on the outflow ramp that worked great and even provided a little additional bio filtration

I use a new soap dish with suction cups and stick it below the outflow, level with the water's edge. It doesn't change the way the water flows out, but it reduces the strength of it hitting the water.
