I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 platys in it, any suggestions for other fish I can get or how many platys I can get? I would like an algae eater if possible. If it makes any difference I do plan to get a 20 or 30 gallon tank within the next few months

3 platys fully stocks a 10g sadly. They have a very high bioload for their size. You might be able to get one more, but thats it. Shrimp and snails are options though, maybe rcs and nerites. The nerites will eat algae.

    Oh, That's unfortunate :(

Platies are sadly reccomended for tanks larger then a 10g, is there any chance you could swap them out for other fish? It would free up many more stocking options!

Platies are fine in a 10g, but you would have many more options if you returned them.
