10 Gallon Jungle Ideas

Hey y'all!
I have a betta named Biggie Smalls in a 3.5 Gallon aquarium. I have been successful at keeping him healthy, but I know that He needs to be in a bigger tank.

I am planning to set up a ten gallon once I am able to build a stand, and find a good place for it. I love jungle set ups, and I wanted some plant and tank mate recommendations for a mid to high light with a big beautiful butterfly betta in it. I really like floating plants and carpeting plants, though I won't have Co2, so carpeting plants may not be viable. Also, I have a good sized Texas holey rock, but I'm not sure how that would look with the scape. Do y'all have any experience doing jungle scapes with this rock? Would you recommend something else instead?

Thank you guys for your recommendations!

Hi! Personally I think a 3.5 is fine...
Plants for a jungle; mine really likes swimming in a bunch of floating anacharis and under water wisteria, both of which grow extremely quickly. Dwarf sag, or even some smaller vals could work

Thanks for your response! He is doing really well in the 3.5, but he is a big for a betta, and I think he would be happier with more space, and I think I would give him a little more attention in a bigger tank. The 3.5 just gets a little drab because there's just not much room.

I think that's awesome! I'm not trying to persuade you not to upgrade him, but just in case you see another you need... you have a tank
From what I can tell (lol I got more plants today) bettas really really enjoy a more jungle area, I see a big difference in behavior every time I add more plants, they just love them!
Pennywort is supposed to be low light, and most floating plants like frogbit, salivina, dwarf water lettuce, and red root floaters (the roots won't be red in low light though). Also hornwort, though a lot of people complain about it shedding, java moss, sußwassertang, java moss, anubias, and, these two are a bit iffy because they gets huge, but melon swords and flame swords, specifically the red ones, can also be fine in low tech. I actually have one (not sure which one) in extremely low lighting and minimal ferts, and it puts out a new leaf every week or two, which is pretty cool.

I would also add water wisteria to the list, I've found success with it in low lighting. For a carpeting plant, I would suggest you try out dwarf sagittaria subulata, it might be too big as a foreground plant for a 10 gallon but some people like the look. I would also suggest a small piece of drift wood, you can never go wrong aesthetically with drift wood.

Does anyone have any ideas for tank mates? I will probably get a nerite snail, but I would also like a something like Neon tetras or something else that will pop in a heavily planted scape.

Mystery snail!!
Possibly a small school of 6-8 celestial pearl danios (lots of names for those guys, they're called Galaxy rasboras at Petco) if the betta allows it
