10 Gallon Build: Bettas, Puffers, And Snails

As of now I have a 5 gallon tank with a heater, sponge filter, a few java ferns, 1 female Betta, and 2 cory cats. I really want to get a Dwarf Indian Puffer, so I was thinking of upgrading to a 10 gallon tank and adding a divider. So 5 gallons would be for the Betta and the 2 Cory Cats then the other 5 would be for the Dwarf Puffer.

Here are my questions:
- Is 5 gallons too small for a Dwarf Indian Puffer? I have heard people put them in 10 gallons by themselves.
- Can snails cross a tank divider? I am going to be keeping trumpet snails on the DP's side of the tank as food for him and I would rather not have them invade the Betta/Cory side.

What type of cory? They need 20 gallons minimum and groups of 6+

I can't see any problems with your plan. Why not put the betta in the 10 gallon and put the puffer in your current 5 gallon?

The snails crossing the divider depends on how well fitting the divider is

Agree with the above! However if your going to do a puffer the only one you can do is the pea puffer!

As mention corys need to be in a group of 6 since they are shoaling fish and need a 20 gallon tank.

Ok thanks and I have 2 Peppered Cory Cats. The consolidation of the tank was more for personal preference just to have one active tank and keep the 5 as a hospital/spare in case of emergencies and what not.

Ok, I will change my plan to include a larger tank for the cory cats. I have had them in my tank for about a month and a half. They have been getting along very well **** the betta and don't show any signs of illness or stress, but I wouldn't want to keep them improperly.

Oh, seeing tht you have peppered corys they are cooler water corys so <74F! I personally keep them in a my 40 breeder and had to get fish that were able to deal with the low 70s

My tank is currently around 74 degrees F, but yeah in the next month or two I will be changing things up and get a larger tank. I know Betta's prefer a few degrees warmer, but 74 is alright if I am not mistaken.

Bettas need water between 78 and 80f, 74 is too cold

Okay when I make changes I,ll move the Cory's to a larger tank and introduce more. I will also keep the 5 gallon up and running and up the temp to 78 -80 F

I'll also hold off on doing anything else until I perfect conditions for the Cory cats and the Betta. Thank you for the advice everyone
