I want to make a planted tank with plenty of rocks, I want the plants to be native to Tanganyika, so suggestions would be great. I want the shell dwellers in there, i am asking if there are any other cichlids or other fish from Lake Tanganyika that would be nice.
    Thank you!

I really would not put Cichlids other than maybe rams in a 10 gallon

I would do the shell dwellers they grow up to about 1 1/2 inches. But i would only do fish from Tanganyika.

    Neolamprologus ocellatus

At 10 gallons you can keep the shell dwellers, but not any other fish. I have a 10 gallon shell dweller tank. All that's in it is the shell dwellers. I would not put more any more fish in that tank. If it were a larger tank, sure.

Although plants do indeed grow in Lake Tanganyika, the area of the lake where the shell dwellers live is kind of barren. All that you'll find in their part of the lake is sand and shells. Even rocks will be scarce.

Should I keep many species of neolamprologus?

Not if you want them to breed. Keep one species if you want a breeding colony. Again, in a larger tank this may differ, but for 10 gallons...

Are there any small tanganyikan cichlids that are blue or yellow

You can only keep one breed of Shellies in a tank, especially one that small. Multis are friggen adorable.

Are there any species of fish that are not cichlids good for ten gallons
  12. trash.binh91Valued MemberMember

    That live in tanganyika

    Not really for 10 gallons.
If you can do bigger you can open up your options a fair bit.

I was researching nano tanks of lake Tanganyikan cichlids and I was on this website called absolutely fish.com and I read that in 10 gallons you could keep cichlids under 3 inches and over 4 inches would require a 30 gallon. They seemed trustable and looked like they knew what they were doing. I want to see if you guys think it’s ok and maybe take a look at this link.
