1-day Build

Yup you read that right. This is going to be a one day build. Everyone is in QT tanks, all the equipment is purchased, and cycled media is at the ready. The catch; the tank is only going to be setup on the 8th of October.

Day 0, Week 1
I'm glad I took the time to QT these guys where I'm still able to replace the dead fish. Our total stock ATM is;
1x DG
1x Albino corydora aeneus
5x zebra danio
1x male guppy.
1x female guppy
2x unsexed juvenile guppy

We've sadly lost 2x male guppy, and 3x zebra danios due to a mass fish suicide(they found the only quarter size hole in the lid) and a female guppy and a zebra danio to stress. There's also been 2x male guppy attacked by the gourami due to their small QT size.

The guppies are going to live in the family colony of guppy tanks (that's 2x 29 and a 20 long). Another danio will be added in the future and 5 more cories are going to be added when petsmart receives more.

The build is going to be a planted 20 long, with black blasting sand and some sort of fake wood ornament. Pics will be added at some point...

Also thought I'd mention; the tank is going in a kindergarten class so the 1 day setup is a must.

With cycled media at the ready, your plan sounds do-able.

However, I would get your plants from a reputable person. This would ensure your plants are free from diseases.

Also, do remember to add the fish 3-4 hours after you put water in the tank. It would help the water to get clearer and the filter to do its stuff.

The plants are mostly cutting from other tanks we have running. It's a tank for a kindergarten class so I need to be in and out on a Sunday. And thanks about the waiting, wouldn't have thought of that.

Sounds like a good idea. After adding water your substrate would probably make the water cloudy, that's why you'll have to wait a while.

I would recommend adding the fish slowly to the main tanks. I would only add about 4 the first time. Take water parameters numbers and make sure they are not out of whack. Add another 3 or 4 fish the next week. But that's just me. Learned the hard way already.

Normally that's what I do, but as I posted earlier. I'm just in charge of the setup and stocking and not the tank itself. I have a day to setup the whole thing in my mothers classroom. I'm also not very worried about bioload as the filter media will be coming from very heavily stocked tanks in comparison to what I'm putting in this tank. But personally I agree with you, I tend to space stocking over about a month.

I would have to agree on that. If you add all of the stock at once, it would be too much for your BB to handle, hence causing an ammonia spike. I would introduce fish by groups in between a week or two

Would daily prime dosings for a week help with this? A week between stocking really isn't an option

I did what you did and all the fish died. Was setting up a QT and used media seeded from my main tank. Add 8 fish. 1 by 1 they died. I had to go to Florida to check property after hurricane and never saw the ammonia spike until I got back 9 days later. Someone fed the fish for me b

I use stability for bacteria and prime for water changes.

The QT are all set up, they will be until the 5th when the fish are getting bagged for transport. The tank owner is experienced at fishkeeping I'm just in charge of the upgrade so water parameters can be monitored past the setup date. I'll be adding media from my goldfish tank aswell(cause we all know they have huge bioloads meaning lots of BB) and the filter going on that tank has been running for almost 2 months by this point...
