Here is one of only three offspring I got out of a spawning between a Petco "King" male and a female from my Platinum Green HM line. He's the biggest Betta in the fishroom by far.

Sortof but not exactly. If you take a Giant to a regular you will get a portion of regulars, a few half giants and maybe a Giant here an there. If you take a half to a full you can get a large number of giants, halfs and a few regulars. If you take a Giant to a Giant you get a small amount of normals, a few half giants, some giants for sure and then possibly some giants that are bigger then the parents. It is sort of a progressive gene.Is it like big dog x little dog -> medium dog
The ratio is supposed to be Giant X Regular = 1/3 Giant, 1/3 HalfGiant and 1/3 Regular. HalfGiant X HalfGiant = 1/4 Giant, 1/2 HalfGiant and 1/4 Regular. Something to that effect anyway. In theory that is. Reading a story from the two men in Thailand who claim to have developed Giants they only get a few Giants from every spawn. So like every other punnett square it only works on paper.

*P.s. I would love to buy one if you're looking to sell....I've got a nice 10 gal just for him
I wonder how many of us were thinking the same thing?

Just playful banter for now . If any of us were terribly serious we would probably PM Chard56.We arn't supposed to mention B/S/T in non B/S/T forums . Prolly why most of us didn't.
Very nice male! Why are you having issues getting a spawn from him again?

My Purple line was started with a King Betta and a Chocolate regular female Betta. They were not a problem and he seemed to be very gentle. The Chocolate female was rougher. The one King female I found accidently sent as a male (at that time I couldn't order one) after searching for a year and a half was very aggressive and bit a hole in the side of the biggest King male. I could see his silver stomach lining and it took weeks for him to heal. It left a hole too. I eventually got them to spawn or try to spawn. They spent a day and a half not getting it right. He would get her halfway over and she would turn the other way or pop out the side. I finally had to separate them because I couldn't stand watching anymore. The Halfmoon male this thread is about is just lazy. Overly gentle almost and just acts like it's too much to ask to pick the eggs up and when he does it's too much hassle to put them in the dinky nest he made and eats most of them. Adding to it that a lot of females will go right at it when it comes to eating the eggs so out of a couple hundred eggs I was lucky to have saved two dozen AND to have them hatch. I'm trying to make room for the brother and sister of this guy. He's way more aggressive and she's not submissive. Oh boy, here we go!
That incident was 5 years ago and I haven't had anything like it since. I do have an occassional female chew up a Halfmoon males finnage to the point that he looks like a bad Crowntail before getting down to business but most of the time it's either they spawn nicely within 2 or 3 days of putting them together or they don't and I try a different pair or partner. I used to condition by feeding them frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworms once a day and pellets the other feeding. I'm mildly alergic to mosquitoes and bloodworms give me the same reaction so I quit feeding that. Now I just feed them pellets like the rest of my adults and don't find a need to feed anything special. I've had well over 200 successfull spawns and have 1,500 to over 2,000 Bettas on hand at any given time so I know the pellet feeding works fine.Interesting. Fortunately I never experienced anything like that. My bettas were some of the easiest fish to breed ever. How are you conditioning the fish?
