0 ppm Nitrate

Hello !
I’ve been treating my fishes with PraziPro because they were scratching a lot, so to prevent I put 1 teaspoon of the product for my 20 gallons tank, and after 5 days I did 30% water change and put another teaspoon. 1 day after the second dose, I tested the water and the parameters are 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite and 0 ppm nitrate (the nitrates had been so far 5 ppm always). I just want to make sure if 0 nitrates is something to worry about or it’s ok. Thank you!

I don't know if prazipro is one of them, but a lot of meds can mess with your cycle by killing a lot of your BB. Something like that may have happened in this case.

Everybody say PraziPro is very safe for BB and even to snails (my 3 snails are fine so far) . I cleaned some diatoms from the glass a couple of hours before I tested the water. Could that be another reason? I guess I’ll keep testing the water and hopefully ammonia and nitritres will stay in 0.

Probably the best thing to do for now and hopefully things start getting back to normal soon!

I've used PraziPro several times, no problems with the cycle.

if it did mess up your cycle, then you would see either ammonia or nitrite.

How much diatom are you seeing? If a lot, it might be the diatoms that are taking up all the nitrate.

It wasn’t an insane level, it was maybe 20% of the front glass and a little bit on the sides, plus some on the decor. The snails have been eating it.

That would be more than enough to reflect significant consumption of nitrate.

The main worry is not that nitrate is at 0, but that it is erroneously read at 0. In this case, does not seem so.

I’ve also used Prazipro with no cycle issues.
If your nitrates were already low at 5 ppm, and you did maybe an extra water change during treatment, I wouldn’t worry.
I’m guessing your tank is lightly stocked to have a normal nitrate of 5 ppm? Is it planted?
