0.9 Gallon Tank With No Filter

My friend has recently purchased a betta fish and she came to me when she realized she had no idea what she was getting into. She is on her way to getting the appropriate equipment but currently she has him in a .9 gallon tank with no filter and the last water change was a week ago. I've never had this type of situation, please help me give her safe info! How often should she change the water and what percentage while she waits for the appropriately sized new aquarium to arrive?

Tell her to change about 70% of the water 1-2 times a day. The tank can't cycle without a filter, that's why this is necessary

I'd tell her to do a 50% every day, every other day at the very most, and to make sure it's treated. I'm assuming it's not heated either. Tell her to keep a gallon of water in the same area that the fish is to make sure the water temperature is the same.

Ok, thank you!

Could your friend buy a cheap, food safe container to put him in until the tank arrives? 5 gallon storage boxes are cheap and relatively easy to find. It will be a lot easier to keep the water clean and parameters stable in a larger volume of water.

Does she have a heater?

Can probably pick up a cheap plastic fishbowl from a pet store or walmart even, the bigger the better for a temporary home.

The aquarium kit should ordered should arrive in 3 days, it's not long enough really for her to go and purchase another containment unit. For now the betta is doing fine, hes been getting 50% water changes, hes eating fine, I looked him over, there are so far no signs of illness. She has no heater but she's getting one now. With the temperature her house remains at a heater isn't the biggest of concerns for now at least.
