0.25 Ppm Of Ammonia After Water Change

Hello everyone,

I was wondering why I had 0.25 ammonia left every time (weekly) I water changed. I usually to a 40% water change. I think it is because of the chlorine + ammonia = chloramine thing. How do I get rid of it? Or do I just neutralize it with prime? And how long till it goes away?

Thanks in advance

Have you tested your tap water for ammonia? My tap water has about that much ammonia in it....

Hi, I just tested my water and I have 0.5 ppm of ammonia in my tap. What do I do???

Wow that's really high for tap water

I would suggest doing two 20% water changes a week rather than one 40% change per week. That should make a difference.

Basically you'll have to do smaller but more frequent water changes.

Also, use seachem prime as your dechlorinator if you don't already. It can help detoxify that ammonia for 24 hours while the beneficial bacteria in your filter eats it up.

If you test your tank after 24hrs is it back to 0?
If your using prime with the water change it should be fine.
