    Backup cheap HOB?

I'd get an Aquaclear. For a 40 gallon, a 110 is more than enough, and they are so much easier to clean than a canister. But, canisters do not have to be cleaned as often. Put a pre sponge on the end of the Aquclear and it will help keep your media cleaner. It's up to you though. The Penn...

    Backup cheap HOB?

I'd get the AC over a cheap knock off canister every time. They work and are made better. I'd bet they last a lot , lot, longer too.

I probably would too. But ammonia and Stability doesn't take that long either. It's really up to you. Decisions, decisions....

I'm thinking 6 is an SAE. Looks a lot like all of mine. A better pic would help.

(Cichlid?) Stocking for 55 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium

Barbs are egg scatters so if you have a canister you may find some offspring in there, but it's unlikely. There is an extremely slim chance of any eggs making it in the tank. I would not worry at all about the barbs. The only way to not have breeding behavior from the kribs is to keep the...

Multiple filters in new 125 gallon

That would be more than adequate. Put the 400 on the opposite end on the back of the tank from the output from the FX6. Or leave the 400 off altogether. The FX6 is really all you need with its huge media capacity and massive pump....

    Cycling with raw shrimp!

It's really not that bad. But I agree straight ammonia is obviously cleaner and less gross. The biggest advantage to using shrimp is you can toss it in and not have to check it daily. Once a week at first is fine. To the OP. For a 40 gallon I would use half of a jumbo shrimp at most. Maybe...

That would work. What size tank is this?

Multiple filters in new 125 gallon

The media capacity of the filter and the amount of water the pump moves. Experience with these large size filters on a medium size tank like a 125 with African cichlids also assures me one is more than enough. I would personally add a AC 110 at the opposite end of the canister outlet, but that...

    Choosing cichlids

(Cichlid?) Stocking for 55 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium

@JGombs99 Kribs can be mean if they breed, and can be territorial if they are the same sex. I would get 12 tiger barbs. There is no reason the parrot, kirb, raphael and barbs can't live in a 55 for life.

My knife fish had an all you can eat buffet!!

bmxer901 Plywood tanks are a great idea. Liquid pond liners work very well. Just make sure you get one that silicone will adhere too for your windows.

Not to hijack, but the clown knife, and if you mean orinoco peacock bass, those will quickly outgrow a 150. You need a 8' x 4' tank minimum for them.

    Cycling with raw shrimp!

I've done it. It works fine. But if you use too big of a piece, your ammonia can get too high and slow things down. So you may need to do water changes. It also smells a bit. But with a glass lid you won't really notice it. And if you do do this, put it in a media bag so you don't make a mess of...

(Cichlid?) Stocking for 55 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium

A single Oscar is perfectly fine and suitable for a 75 gallon. But I would not keep anything else with it. There are so many different kinds of Africans, you can't really say a 55 is the minimum for them because there are quite a few that will work just fine in a 10 gallon. There are also...

Multiple filters in new 125 gallon

Yeah, the FX6 and a Emperor 400 would be enough. To be perfectly honest, anyone who's used a FX6 would now that's more than adequate for a 125. As far as me suggesting the Aquaclear, I just like them better. I've used both AC's and Emperors, and I prefer AC's. Nothing wrong with Emperors though.

Multiple filters in new 125 gallon

    I'd do a pair of FX6, or a single FX6 and 1 or 2 Aquaclear's 110

Very nice. Oscars make a great wet pet for a 75 gallon.
