How Attached Are They To Us?

Do any of yours repeatedly bump your hand when it's in the tank like mine does? I suppose he wants to remind me that I could be feeding him. Or maybe he's saying hi--5 times, 10 times.... ETA: Terrified of us, aren't they? Sassy little tiny bits of life. Got to love 'em.

    Switching Sponge Filters By Alternating

Thanks so much for the idea! I tried it--plugged both of them in--they run off of the smallest Tetra whisper air pumps. They are both in the corner with all the plants, and the double one has a spout at top that you can turn, which I turned to direct the flow to the side of the aquarium. The...

    Switching Sponge Filters By Alternating

Hi, thanks, no not a new tank, an old cycled tank with a single sponge filter that I want to replace with a double sponge filter. They're both in the tank now. Since it's just 5 gallons and I have a betta fish I don't think I can run them both at the same time. I was planning to run them...

    Switching Sponge Filters By Alternating

I wonder if it would ruin the old sponge if I cut it open and wrapped it around one of the new ones. Kind of scary but if worst came to worst I could go back to the daily water changes that were so much fun a month ago. Not so nice for Mr. Fish though.

    Switching Sponge Filters By Alternating

Thanks so much! You guys have given me some ideas, which I haven't had the opportunity to investigate yet, but I will. Yes, it's a forked filter with a small sponge on each of 2 towers.

How To Vaccuum 5 Gallon Tank ?

I know what you mean! I got the smallest siphon at the pet store; the expanded tube at the end is a little more than 1" across by 4". I still have to be careful to hold the end of the tube very near the gravel. Is your betta very curious too?

    Switching Sponge Filters By Alternating

Hi... I have a well-cycled tank and am switching from a single sponge filter to a double. My plan is to run the new one maybe 6 hours, then unplug it and plug the old one back in, and continue this until the new one is fully functional. Any idea how long this would take? Not planning to run...

    5 Gallon Tank Good Heater?

Thanks. Another one of the problems with a small tank. What I did for now: ordered a fancy one from Amazon (Cobalt) for hard winter, and picked up a small (7.5) Aqueon always-on to raise the temperature a few degrees at night in the borderline weeks. I hope the fish does okay; I don't seem to...

    3 Gallon Nano

I, the almost-rank beginner, am going to jump in here anyway. It's a cute tank. But it would be a bit hard to clean with fish in it (experience talking.) And most people on this forum would say it's not big enough for healthy, adult fish; the only ones small enough are schooling fish which...

    5 Gallon Tank Good Heater?

Temperatures are starting to cool here and soon my house will be under 75 degrees, at night down as low as 70. But when I look at reviews of aquarium heaters there are so many unfortunate incidents. What do you use in your 5 gallon tank? What have you used and regretted it? This is for a 5.5...

    Celebrating One Month With Gus

This is a milestone day for me because when I bought Gus, newbie though I am, I thought that if I got him out of the pet store cup and into something bigger and he lived for a month, I had probably done an overall good thing. Back in July it came time to euthanize my very old, very impaired...

Water tested at PetStore using Tetra strips. Ammonia 0, nitrite trace, nitrate 0. Sorry I blamed API. I didn't change his water yesterday or today. I don't think I should post any more in this thread unless something happens that might be useful for someone to know. Thanks for the replies.

There are a lot of bettas out there who would love that. They're so beautiful swimming free.

Yes, thank you for checking. That's the dancing around the kitchen part, to break up the tedium of just shaking a tube for a minute or more. Late Sunday water test update: nitrites now very close to 0--baby blue color. Going to take a sample to the pet store tomorrow, and then try to just...
