    The Fishbowl Thread

Post pics of your freshwater bowls, vases, and other small unconventional containers! I'll start with my newly planted 3 gallon unfiltered betta bowl. :)

Does anyone know how the heck I can make this driftwood sink? I removed all but 2 of the stones and it wants to bob like a cork if I remove them.

Week 3 Update: The cypress bogwood is still very buoyant, so the stones will have to stay for a while. I removed some of the smaller ones but when I go to remove larger stones I can definitely feel the wood wanting to float. The dwarf hairgrass hasn't carpeted as I would like and has grown...

    Crystal Shrimp Riparium, 9g

New update: After scouring the internet I came across information from multiple sources that Seiryu Stone contains carbonate minerals that will leech out in an acidic environment. Perfect, my entire foundation of my scape is made of the stuff. So I decided it wasn't worth letting it...

    Crystal Shrimp Riparium, 9g

Another update. Its only been about 2 days since the big water change and TDS is at 281 this morning. I have been dosing fertilizer per the bottle's instructions, but there's no way that can raise the TDS by 80-90ppm in 2 days. Betta tank TDS is 123, RCS tank has a TDS of 92. No stones at...

    Planted Vase, No Filter

    Crystal Shrimp Riparium, 9g

I'll try that later this week. It's been about 10 hours since the big water change, TDS is at 198 from 184 but that may just be from where I dosed fertilizer.

    Crystal Shrimp Riparium, 9g

Currently at 184. If it keeps rising I may have to tear down the scape and reset everything with just my active substrate and wood. I certainly hope not, though. As I previously mention, I've used these stones before without the TDS increase.

Only thing is that the vast majority of these stones are from a previous setup that also ran CO2, and my TDS was always fairly consistent in that tank. Only difference is I was using tap water.

I just realized... Is it possible my shrimp salts aren't dissolving completely before I add them, giving me a false reading, and the CO2 causes them to break down more?

2 week update: TDS was 345. No idea why. Did a huge water change with mostly pure distilled water to get the TDS down. Plant growth is good, though DHG is getting taller rather than spreading. It was labelled as Eleocharis parvula but the growth looks more like Eleocharis acicularis. A...

    20 Gallon Caridina Tank

I'd give it at minimum 2 more weeks post cycling before adding shrimp.

Best Fertilizer To Use In Gelatin Caps?

All of his tanks contain thriving populations of shrimp and snails. I imagine the garden ferts are formulated to have a very slow release. I've dug osmocote capsules out of my substrate that had been there for months without completely dissolving. The key is to have a massive plant load from...

Best Fertilizer To Use In Gelatin Caps?

MD Fish Tanks on YouTube just uses MiracleGro All Purpose Plant Food, his tanks are super lush and healthy and most run without filters or fertilizer dosing.

Another update: Did a vinegar test on a few of the stones. No reaction took place so they are pH neutral. The mystery continues...

    Crystal Shrimp Riparium, 9g

So today the TDS was 280. I remember that a couple of the stones in the tank are not seiryu, but a mystery stone with a similar appearance and coloration. Perhaps these are not pH neutral... Added a few ghost shrimp to slightly increase bioload and to have scavengers to help clean up any...
