5 Gallon Tank Fin rot-do I need more salt?

Yep, I've also been using stress coat for awhile! I went into detail in my original post but basically he's dealt with fin rot for awhile, so I'm used to using stress coat and IALs. I could probably add a bit more stress coat I suppose, since it can't be overdosed.

5 Gallon Tank Fin rot-do I need more salt?

The thing is, my parameters are near perfect and the other fin is growing so quickly! The only thing that's a little high is my nitrate, but that's only around 30. My pH is 7.8 but it has been stable there for months. Water changes have helped a lot in the past but for some reason I don't feel...

5 Gallon Tank Fin rot-do I need more salt?

Hi everyone! I posted a few days back about fin rot on my betta and was advised to begin using aquarium salt and add more tannins. info here On Monday night I started the salt, and put in 2 teaspoons of salt. (using the ratio on the box, 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and slightly below tank size in...

8 Gallon Aquarium Algae Tank Mates for Betta & ADF

Honestly to keep the gravel clean my best recommendation is just to vacuum it once every week or two! It's a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it, it's like second nature and does wonders for keeping the tank clean. I like to scrape the walls before doing this if there's a lot...

8 Gallon Aquarium Algae Tank Mates for Betta & ADF

Welcome to fishlore! I agree with Ouse. I've never understood why everyone feels the need to get algae eaters, because you're pretty much fine without them. I guess you could try a snail, but adding another fish to a tank that size would increase the bioload so much that you would probably end...

    Cheapest possible tank setup?

Yeah, my 5.5 gallon is a starter kit from Petsmart that I got on an amazing sale. I like it pretty much, but for this tank I want to use a sponge filter and want to have a slightly better light to be able to grow a few plants. Nothin fancy, just one a little bigger than the one in my current...

    Really bad levels all around

I agree with what carsonsgjs said about doing water changes and not changing filter pad, but another sign you need more water changes is the nitrate level. In general the way to remove nitrates is just through water changes because (usually) there isn't any bacteria that can remove it. If you...

How Much is To Much For Betta Fish Ph Swing

Hi Samuel! Welcome to fishlore. I would advice against keeping a snail in with the betta in a tank that size due to their combined bioload. If it was down over he course of 4 hours I think he should be okay, but that could still be stressing him out a little bit so try to avoid any more big...

    Looking for a Good heater

Thank you for all the input everyone, I think I've decided to go with the Fluval! They have a good warranty if it doesn't work out, and I should be able to lay it horizontally if it doesn't fit the way I usually do it :)

    Looking for a Good heater

Oh yes I've seen that one! I think I actually have that one from my old 2.5 gallon and like it a lot, so I would buy one however I'm looking for an adjustable heater in case of illness. Thanks for the input! I know Eheim Jager has a good reputation but I'm scared by all the bad reviews so I...

    Looking for a Good heater

I found a good one for around $25, but my only hesitation is the bad reviews. I know every heater has bad reviews but it seems like a disproportionate amount of them say it's faulty. Do they have a warranty or a reputation for good customer service? (sorry for being so picky lol, I was a little...

    Looking for a Good heater

Is this the one from walmart you're talking about? Aquarium Heater, Glass Explosion-Proof Heating Rod with Adjustable Temperature Knob and Temperature Indicator, Suitable for Various Fishtank I do have a good thermometer in mind that I like. Also, what do you mean by plugging multiple heaters...

What color gravel looks best for this tank?!?

My first instinct was sand would look amazing in there, but if you're wanting to stick with gravel (totally understandable) then definitely a natural shade similar to sand.

Best heater for a 5g? Thermometer?

I know this post is super old, but if you're still looking for a thermometer I highly recommend the ones from JW! Mine is very accurate (tested in a bowl of ice water) and it is secured using a magnet, so no annoying suction cup that doesn't work.

    Looking for a Good heater

I've had good experiences with tetra in the past actually (I enjoyed the 50w preset heater & plan to use it in 2.5 gallon QT) but do you know if they make adjustable heaters? I'm primarily looking for that in case I need to change the temperature for illness or something.

    Easy small plants?

Maybe a carpeting plant/moss would work well there?

    Looking for a Good heater

Hi all! I'm working on planning out a budget 10 gallon, and the heater has really stumped me. I'm looking at around 50-75 watts in a fully submergible, adjustable heater, but it's hard to pick with so many brands. I have a 50w Aqueon adjustable in my 5.5 gallon and hate it, so I'd prefer other...

    Cheapest possible tank setup?

Ahh, that makes sense! I'll definitely look into the USB air pump for that. The battery option is a nice feature as well; we get a lot of snow here so I'm always concerned about having an extended power outage. Thank you for the tips, that was super helpful! So glad I joined this forum--I've...

10 Gallon Tank Help reading API test kit

I agree, the nitrate test is especially hard to read. I've never been able to tell the difference between the 10 and 20, and the 40 and 80. That said, it looks to be around 5ppm nitrate (maybe a little less) which is good news for cycling! Assuming you are doing a fishless cycle and there are no...

    Cheapest possible tank setup?

So if I get a USB air pump, would that need to be plugged into the wall for power? And what is a plant weight? Sorry for my confusion, I've just never used a sponge filter before and I'm not very mechanically inclined lol.
