Fuzzy White Bump - Columnaris? TB + Fungus?

Some photos of his current situation! I feel like you can see his shape v well in the second one, even if the redness and the white bump remain difficult to accurately capture.

Fuzzy White Bump - Columnaris? TB + Fungus?

Update: the fish is still looking not super good. I’m really hoping he’ll pull through somehow, but I’m worried. There’s another fuzzy patch growing a bit behind where the original one was, and it looks like maybe a sort of grayish-white flat patch above the nearby fin. I’m also pretty convinced...

Fuzzy White Bump - Columnaris? TB + Fungus?

Update: the bump is pretty much gone today, and the smaller one that was behind it is larger now. In its place is a red, sort of raw looking area. That points to Columnaris, right? It wasn’t my impression that Saprolegnia grew or receded particularly quickly.

Fuzzy White Bump - Columnaris? TB + Fungus?

Hey all! I've got a danio with a white fuzzy bump on its side and I am trying to figure out how to effectively treat it. The current suspects in my mind are either a columnaris infection or a sore - perhaps from TB - that got secondarily infected with a fungus, but I'm not sure. Any help...

    What’s Causing This Shrimp Sickness?

Thank you so much for the advice! I think you're right about the maintenance bringing this on - the shock of the freeze a couple months ago really upset the ecosystem of the tank, and my scattered schedule since then meant it took a while to even back out. I'll follow your advice and try to get...

    What’s Causing This Shrimp Sickness?

Hi, y’all! I’ve just had another shrimp come down with a mysterious ailment, and I was hoping y’all might be able to lend a hand. A few days ago, I noticed my largest Red Rili shrimp (a female who laid one batch of eggs previously, shortly after the power outage and multiday freeze in February)...

What to do with a stagnant filter?

Thank you! I haven't actually dared to open it up yet but like you said, even if it smells fine, I'd definitely be cautious with it. I need to redo the tank in general so maybe I will just throw in some cycled and some new like you suggested, I don't probably have enough cycled to go 50/50 but I...

What to do with a stagnant filter?

Hi all! As the title implies, I lost power in the Texas outages for a few days and didn't think to unseal my canister filter to prevent it from stagnating. I'm not certain it's reached the point where it's making toxins, but it's been long enough that I don't want to risk it. I'm now curious -...

Power Outage - What to Do?

I'm so glad you got resurrections, that's awesome! How exactly did they look dead? My expired cherry barb sank instead of floating at first - I removed her because I didn't want to risk the ammonia, and we didn't get power back for another day anyways so I imagine she wouldn't have survived long...

Power Outage - What to Do?

The power has been back for a day or so now! 76 hours with no power in the cold was definitely difficult to weather for the fish, but as far as I can tell the cherry barb was the only direct casualty. My berried RCS didn't even drop her eggs, surprisingly enough. Thank you to everyone who gave...

Power Outage - What to Do?

Update for today: I lost a cherry barb in my largest tank, though she is the only confirmed casualty so far (it’s hard to tell with java loaches, since they tend to hide). The others seem kind of rough - I’m mostly worried because it seems like there’s a slight level of gill redness among a few...

Power Outage - What to Do?

Thank y’all for this advice, I really appreciate all the responses! I’ll try to splash some fresh water on the HOB, bagging the media and putting it in the tank sounds like a compelling idea - if I can find a good bag I’ll try it out. I just did a couple tests and it seems like ammonia hasn’t...

Power Outage - What to Do?

Hey, everyone! I lost power in a record-breaking winter storm 36 hours ago, and we’re looking at potentially at least another 12 before we get any more. Aside from a one hour blip this morning where we got energy back and I was able to run heaters and air stones, my three tanks (one with RCS...

Hydra and Baby Shrimp - What Should I Do?

Sounds good, I will try to order some No-Planaria today and do a good cleaning while I wait for it to arrive. Thank you for the advice!

Hydra and Baby Shrimp - What Should I Do?

Hi, everybody! A few months ago, I set up a rili shrimp tank, and these past couple of weeks I've been delighted to see several babies swimming around the tank. They really seem to be doing well and until yesterday, it was smooth sailing. However, last night, I noticed a sizable infestation of...

0-0-0 readings in a seeded cycle

My other quarantine tank isn't down, per se, but this one is much better suited to the parameters of the fish, Green Neon Tetras and a lone Zebra Danio (who I'm eventually getting friends for and moving to my main tank, if all goes well). I'm considering just swapping over the quarantine tank...

0-0-0 readings in a seeded cycle

Sounds good, thank you! I really appreciate your advice. I have some preparations in case of an ammonia spike: another tank where the fish can move and some extra media in my filter that I can swap over as needed, that way I should be able to minimize the risk. Once again, thanks for all your help!

0-0-0 readings in a seeded cycle

Update: I changed the water today, since I heard sometimes high nitrates can register as no nitrates. I tried to pick up the pellets I dropped in a few days ago, and they were mushy and fell apart in my hands. In general, there's a very visible amount of detritus in the tank, and I have to...

0-0-0 readings in a seeded cycle

Hello, everybody! Just over a week ago I set up a new 10g tank, filling the tank with RO and the filter with media from my display tank. Initially, I was getting an ammonia reading (around 0.5 ppm, I believe): I think this was because a small amount of sand from the tank's previous incarnation...

    Small Fish ID

On closer inspection, I agree with DoubleDutch and PaprikaFish, I think it's likely a green neon. Thanks everyone for your help!
