    Synodontis angelicus Not Eating

Thanks for the advice! I'd been dropping stuff near his spot anyway, but now he's settled in enough that I actually saw him eat some pellets this morning. My mom was absolutely shocked lol

    Synodontis angelicus Not Eating

So... Long story. I recently got a Synodontis angelicus that is new to me, but he's at least 5 years old and very stunted. He came from one of the tanks that my mom keeps and maintains in her office waiting room - a 29 gallon. She has kept fish for decades, so the water quality was fine, and the...

    Two Female Cryptoheros Nanoluteus?

I'm just grateful for the advice! Aside from people sharing their breeding experiences, there isn't a ton of information out there about these guys socially, and what there is usually ends badly for the female haha. I'll probably just stare at the tank in the store for a while and find a less...

    Two Female Cryptoheros Nanoluteus?

Good to know. So should I just go with one, or should I try a male/female pair and just keep an eye out for aggression? I would love to just make more room and get a big group, but I don't think that will be an option.

    Two Female Cryptoheros Nanoluteus?

I'm waiting for my local fish store to get some yellow convicts, and I'm very excited! I was initially just going to get one, but I read that they prefer groups. Assuming my tank really only has room for two yellow convicts, and assuming I would like to keep the peace, would it be better to just...

    Blood parrot not eating

Awesome, I'll definitely give that a try. It's been about 3 weeks since I moved the tank, but she's smart enough, I would imagine she could still be fussy about a change of scenery.

    Blood parrot not eating

I've had my blood parrot cichlid for well over a year now, and she recently stopped eating. She has always been a total pig, but within the last few days to a week she stopped eating her normal pellets. I switched to Bug Bites flakes last night and she ate those, but now she isn't eating those...

    Accidental Algae Farm

Went out today and I got what looks to be Amazon frogbit. For floating plants, they just sell a bag of whatever they pull out of the tank, so that's what I got. Looks fine and healthy, but now that I'm reading about it, it seems like it may cause some oxygen depletion. I think my filter and...

    Accidental Algae Farm

Okay, cool. Probably going to pick up a cup of floaters or something from my lfs then.

    Accidental Algae Farm

Thank you for the advice! Just so I can understand for myself, why? I would have thought that would only be if nitrates were high, but they've been pretty low. Is it just to have something to eat up what the algae has been consuming?

    Accidental Algae Farm

These were both really interesting! It seems like I should probably put my light on a timer, plus I should do more trimming of my plants. I am terrible with plants, aquatic and land, so I was avoiding that step, but seems like it's about time, especially since some of the dwarf sag is pretty...

    Accidental Algae Farm

I had thought about adding a snail, but I was worried that would make the tank overstocked with the 4 shrimp in there too. Should it still be okay?

    Accidental Algae Farm

So, a couple months ago, I decided to try my hand at a planted tank for the first time. It's a 5.5 gallon tank with a java fern, an amazon sword compacta, crypts, anubias nana, and 3 little dwarf sag plants. It started off pretty well, and still is not a catastrophe yet, but there has been a lot...

New Puffer Hardly Eating, Pacing Glass

Update: I think she is definitely snacking on baby shrimp while my back is turned. I went to check on her and the shrimp, and she's got a big ol' belly! All shrimp are accounted for too, so she didn't just destroy one of them, which is nice.

New Puffer Hardly Eating, Pacing Glass

Awesome, thank you all so much for the quick replies. She's been eating some at least, and may be snacking on some baby shrimp when I'm not looking, so I hope she'll be okay. When she sees food she goes for it, she's just been so distracted! Glad to hear that's typical and goes away, though...

New Puffer Hardly Eating, Pacing Glass

Hi all. I just got my first pea puffer a couple days ago, and I have her in a 5.5 planted tank (my first planted tank, going well so far!) with 4 ghost shrimp. Don't worry, the ghost shrimp are way bigger than her, plus they're only in there temporarily to help take care of some algae and dead...

    Ich from plants?

Starting to learn why people quarantine plants... Yeah they were with fish, and I noticed later one of the plant tanks had a yoyo loach that was completely coated. Hindsight is definitely 20/20. Didn't occur to me that plants would be that effective in spreading ich, but it definitely makes...

    Ich from plants?

Trying to confirm an ich source before I make a "heads up" call to my disease-ridden lfs where I was dumb enough to buy some new plants. Checked my receipt, and that was 10 days ago. All I've done since then was a couple 50% water changes (for green water, but parameters are still fine) and...

    Adding fish in planted tank

I think I'll probably wait a couple more weeks or so to let it get a little more lush first, just for my own peace of mind. Definitely cycled though - used old media from another tank, let some food decay, and tested throughout.

    Adding fish in planted tank

Good to know, thank you! I'll give it some time first then.
