    Do excess nutrients cause algae?

Yes you should temporarily limit the amount of fertilizers you are using until algae is under control since algae develops from some imbalance between light, ferts and co2. Every planted tank is different and the EI method does not work for every tank. I have tried both the EI and PPS methods...

    Sexing kribs

Second pic to me actually looks female. But it could be the shading of the pic. Females are usually pinker on their round bellies.

In need of some advice for new tank...

Lol I find it funny too. I used to dread the ideas of them but now I have them in all my tanks! (Except the flowerhorn one, tried it and he kept poking these XL mysteries I had, took them out, feared for their lives in case they ever flipped over). I have 4 nerites and 2 mysteries in the 75g, 2...

    75g stocking...

Yea I probably sounded confusing. Here's the breakdown: Option 1- 6 Discus, no other fish Option 2- Community tank with the cardinal tetras and the ram pairs, cories, gourami, etc. But leave out the discus Discus should really only be in a species only tank as I've heard they can be shy and...

In need of some advice for new tank...

If you're looking for some sort of clean up crew, in a tank size such as yours, snails will do wonders! They eat excess food, eat algae and keep your tank clean basically. Added bonus is they have a very small bioload compared to plecos.

    75g stocking...

I believe that you may be overstocked. I would do either a discus tank or leave the discus out and put the other fish in.

Another vote for Seachem Prime. Bought the 2L jug off Amazon, it was supposed to last me at least a year and a half with one tank. but with all these tanks now, I'll be lucky to get half a year lol.

    Sooo...who's still around?

HI nice to meet you! I'm fairly new here, joined only four months ago. I have a severe case of MTS that I don't think can really be cured lol. I had six tanks at one point that I've downsized to four at this point. But that could change at any point lol. I noticed you posted in my goldfish...

    New Goldfish Tank!

For health issues, I heard the ones with the telescope or bubble eyes usually don't live as long as the other kinds. Some superstitious people also think the black ones, black moors don't live as long either. I would just get the Fluval off Amazon if you can, it's much cheaper. Usually $30-40...

    New Goldfish Tank!

For a 40 gallon with goldfish, you could probably only do 3 or 4 fancies at the most. You'd also be better off with a canister such as a Fluval 306 or even a 406, since they're really messy.

55 gallon tank vs 65 gallon tank?

Didn't you make another thread about this before? 55 gallon because of 4 ft footprint. I'm not really a fan of tall tanks... you have to reach further in to do any kind of maintenance, but that's just me. Fish prefer bigger surface areas too.
