    Manganese Dioxide And Well Water

15% of US households are on a private well, I would've thought there were more of us here. LOL OK, lets try another question as there are even more of us with hard water and regular water softeners. Anyone know if softening with potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride is safe for the...

    Bladder Snail Info?

DPs love snails but they do not need them like larger puffers. A few frozen bloodworms are fine. Even when I've fed my DPs snails I crush first and then shake away all the shell in the snail tank.

    Manganese Dioxide And Well Water

Thanks. Birm and greensand iron filters are very similar. Anyone use either of those without using chlorine or potassium permanganate for oxidation or regen or backwash? Those medias use manganese dioxide coated media and a very similar. I see that manganese dioxide is used sometimes for...

    Manganese Dioxide And Well Water

I have a private well that is filtered with a Pyrolox (manganese dioxide) iron filter and then a water softener. The Pyrolox filter has no air or chemical injection. Anyone know if manganese dioxide has any ill affects on freshwater fish or if there's any other concern? Of course I plan to...

    getting 1st DP tomorrow!

The bloodworms seem to often vary in size no matter if from a flat or cubes. I think it has something to do with what time of years they were harvested or something. I do prefere the cubes and I use them more often than a flat. I find that if I let a cube thaw between my fingers for 15...

    getting 1st DP tomorrow!

I use those little salad dressing cups with lids. I used to just use ones I got with take out food. Recently I went to Gordon Food Serv and bought a sleave of the .5 ounce cups for like 4 bucks. Now instead of buying cubes I buy a less expensive flat of bloodworms and thaw them and divide it...

Kuhli Loach in 29Gal community tank.

I keep 6 in my 29 gallon with 3 dwarf puffers and they use all of the bottom. I agree that it will be too busy with the cories.

Petsmart Top Fin Heaters on Sale

That's too much moisture for sure. Just to reiterate, I bought these heaters for my mix vessels with the second purpose as possible emergency backups. I would not recommend as full time, primary heaters in fish tanks.

The Top Fin are what I always buy. I saw some magnetic ones called MagClip I might try at some point.

Petsmart Top Fin Heaters on Sale

I looked at the paperwork that came with the heaters and it says "12 months". Nothing is printed directly on the outside packaging about the warranty. I would not use them in any of my tanks unless it was as a back up emergency. But I have no problem at all using them in my mix vessels...

Petsmart Top Fin Heaters on Sale

^ Haha, never hesitate on a good deal, just put it in your cart and then make the decision to buy it or put it back. Petsmrt is like any other big box store and have a loose return policy. I think they would rather absorb that cost to keep you coming back and keep their name positive. Back...

Petsmart Top Fin Heaters on Sale

Went to Petsmart today for dog supplies and feeder snail food and walked by the heaters and they were on sale/ marked down. Got the last two Top Fin 150 watt heaters for $14 each. Not sure I would use them in main tanks but I've lost a heater or two and was using better heaters in my two...

Lots of white flakes in my tank very suddenly

The gourami/molly comparison doesn't work. Please please please don't keep fish in a way that satisfies your wants over the fishes/fish's (sp?) Needs. Just because they've lived for months doesn't mean they will thrive and surpass the average lifespan as most properly cared for fish should...

    What fish with your shrimp?

In my 75 gallon with cherry barbs, neons, cardinal tetras, harlequins, panda garas, rummy nose, silver hatchets, emerald/skunk/panda cories...and the rcs still breed like crazy. In fact, I have a ton of big shrimp in there I'm thinking of taking to a lfs that gives 1/3 credit for...and they...

How to accommodate Dragon Goby fish?

Will it kill the fish? Probably not. But they will live a very short unhealthy life. I know it's frustrating but we should never put our wants before the fishes needs.

How to accommodate Dragon Goby fish?

No chance at all. In a 36g you would roughly need about 3-4 cups of salt for the goby and the other fish simply cannot tolerate that. Brackish water can't be made with a few tablespoons of salt like some fish stores might lead you to believe. Also keep in mind that the fish store keeps them...

    My Pea Puffer Pair

Mine have shown that activity but I've never had them spawn that I know of. There have been times when my big male would follow one female around exhaustingly and physically held her down. It is my understand that spawning does happen but rarely. I also understand that suppliers used to breed...

Question about Power filter Penguin 350 Biowheel Filter

I guess that water will alwys travle the path of least resistance and will always take the shortest path. The sponge on the far side away from the impeller well will get very little flow. Same for the bottom of the sponge. Also if the sponge is cut thin enough and only placed at the top so...
