Betta fishs fin rot and swim bladder getting worse

I was afraid I deleted all the pictures of his tail biting, but here we are. He goes through periods of bad biting and healing. He's never let it fully heal. Once it's about 90% regrown, he will bite half of it off again. Pic 2 is his tail when it was almost fully regrown. The translucent part...

    Community stocking thoughts

I just personally like bolivian rams more than black skirt tetras (coming from someone who has never kept either). Plus, longer fins = more opportunities to get bitten or fin rot. Glad the rainbow shark is in it either way. It's a dream of mine to get one of those guys, so I live vicariously...

1 betta has greenish tummy+spot on chin, other (new) betta keeps glass surfing

I dealt with camallanus worms a few weeks back. Ended up having to get my male honey gourami a new mate because of it... I'm sorry you went through that. Just keep an eye out. Handling fish stress in the appropriate way has made me a better fish keeper. Now, I just got more tanks instead of...

Betta fishs fin rot and swim bladder getting worse

Another thing that came to mind, since the rotting is pretty uneven, is that he's biting his tail (which can also cause fin rot). He literally looks exactly like my betta... from the coloring down to the jagged tail. The tannins from the leaves and low lighting should help, too, if that's the...

1 betta has greenish tummy+spot on chin, other (new) betta keeps glass surfing

I agree. If the second betta does not stop glass surfing within the next few days, then it's likely stressed by the guppies and would need to be separated. I tried to keep my betta as a community fish. He would usually be calm and only get grumpy if one of the tetras went in his territory. But...

    Help! Mystery Platy Sickness

I have, sadly, learned that some mysterious illnesses could be parasites. Are they pooping normally? Is there anything that seems to hang out of their anus?

What are you doing to your tank today?

Added this beauty. Didn't QT nearly as long as I'd have liked, but it was a bit of an emergency to keep my male honey happy. They're not same gourami species, but they are swimming around together, so job well done, I guess. He's colored up really nicely for her. I'll just keep a careful eye...

    Is this a female gourami?

That baby is only 2.5 months. Not sure when males would get their lemon stripes, as I've never raised one from an egg before.

Do other gouramis stress-stripe like bettas?

I thought I saw stress stripes on my male honey last week and wrote it off. Then I reconsidered when he started glass surfing for a few days in a row (he was lonely because his partner had recently needed to be euthanized). So it's possible.

Is this Ick?! Or something else??

Yes it's hard to say from the photos. I'd say wait and hour to see if it falls off. If not, then it's maybe something to be concerned about. My betta had me all up in arms a few months after I got him because I thought a tiny flake of driftwood was ich.

October 2021 Fish/Plant/Invert/Coral of the Month

This is Big G, my honey fry who swam into the filter twice as a fry and lived to tell the tale.

    Is this a female gourami?

Has my little baby finally colored up enough to sex it? I'm thinking female. Thoughts?

Molly fry has bright red poop

I've not used either of those meds before, so I'm not much of a help there.

Betta sick! Constipation/ Swim Bladder Disorder? Dropsy?

I usually just toss in some botannicals and call it a day. My betta is a tail biter and personally likes the tank as saturated with tannins as possible, but in my community tank, I add in 3-4 alder cones every other week during a water change.

Betta sick! Constipation/ Swim Bladder Disorder? Dropsy?

This would not help the bloating, but tannins in the water are something I always recommend for bettas, as it lowers their stress levels and allows them to recover faster from other issues without developing a secondary infection of some sort.

Molly fry has bright red poop

I would say yes. I'm really not sure what else would cause it unless they're eating a lot of red foods.

Molly fry has bright red poop

Sorry, I meant that camallanus worms are! Not the fish

Molly fry has bright red poop

Yeah they're very skinny, so it's probably not them. I wouldn't rule out other internal parasites, though.

Molly fry has bright red poop

Does the red ever break off or does it always hang there? I only worry about camallanus worms.
