    African Leaf Fish

Yeah, like Jaysee said, they will eventually get big enough to eat the danios. Their mouths are HUGE in proportion to their size, and anything that fits in it is fair game. When I got mine, the people at the LFS told me they were timid and hide a lot, but mine is always out and about. He's...

Weird gunky white stuff...what is this?

Okay, I'll try to look for that and check other stores tomorrow...another question, does columnaris typically grow on the things in the tank as well? My decorations are covered in the same fuzzy white stuff.

Weird gunky white stuff...what is this?

More bad news...I guess I didn't disinfect my equipment well enough, because it has spread to my female betta's tank. Although her and the remaining cory seem to be doing alright, my 55 is still a mess. I tried to put a fish in there and he got sick almost immediately. I'm treating both tanks...

Weird gunky white stuff...what is this?

Thanks. The link is SUPER helpful, I've got it bookmarked. Should I clean the sand and the decorations/pants and change the water and then let the tank cycle for a bit before adding more fish?

Weird gunky white stuff...what is this?

Bad news - my other parrot has passed. RIP Pickle and Pumkin. ;_; I feel so awful. I've only had them for two weeks. Does columnaris only live on the fish or does it stay in the tank for awhile? How do I make the tank safe for other fish in the future..?

Weird gunky white stuff...what is this?

Thanks a lot...this sounds more like the problem than ich does. And by salt do you mean aquarium salt and not like table salt, right? That's probably a stupid question but I've never done a salt bath before.

Weird gunky white stuff...what is this?

Weird gunky white stuff...is this ich? My 55 gallon with 2 bloody parrots is in trouble. All of a sudden last night before I went to bed I noticed weird gunky white stringy/fuzzy stuff covering both of my parrots. It lined their gills and eyes and fins. There's also some on one of the logs in...

New blood red parrot cichlids! Need tankmate ideas.

One more concern - I've NEVER seen these guys eat. So far they've just been hiding a lot, and don't even come out at mealtime. I'm using the Tetra Cichlid Crisps - should I try a different food? Or are they just taking a long time to settle in?

New blood red parrot cichlids! Need tankmate ideas.

Glass catfish ARE cool. My friend had a couple in her tank. I wonder how big they get? Also, are these fish awkward by nature? I haven't read anything specific about it, but mine tend to bump into each other a lot and tip over...it's pretty cute, I was just wondering if I should worry about it...

New blood red parrot cichlids! Need tankmate ideas.

Thanks for the advice guys, and for the links! I think I'll try and get some cory cats if you guys don't think I should get any more large fish.

New blood red parrot cichlids! Need tankmate ideas.

My 55 finished cycling a week ago so today I went to the fish store to finally stock it. :] Originally I was going to stock it with a pair of angelfish, some silver dollars and some corys, but I ended up falling in love with the parrot cichlids. They were just so cute. I wound up buying a pair...

    Suggestions for my new tank?

Thanks again everyone. I definitely will NOT be looking into an arowana...not only am I short on extra spending money at the moment, but I already have 2 other tanks occupying a lot of space (it was a struggle to find a spot for this new 55 gallon!)...I definitely don't want to maintain a 300...

    Suggestions for my new tank?

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll stick with the angels and silver dollars. One more question; I dont have the money to afford the filter/heater/etc for the tank yet, but can I go ahead and start cycling it anyway? Or do I need a filter to get that going? When I cycled my other 2 tanks I...

    Suggestions for my new tank?

Thanks a lot. Two species I'm interested in are angelfish and convicts. I've heard that both of these species can be really aggressive, though, but I want to be able to put other fish in the tank too. Like corys and a dragon goby, maybe a few silver dollars? (My mother-in-law was the inspiration...

    Suggestions for my new tank?

I just got a 55 gallon tank for free from Freecycle. (It has a leak but I'm fixing it.) In the meantime, what do you guys think I should put in it? I was thinking some types of cichlids, though I've never owned any before. What do you think would be a good stock for a beginner in that respect...

    Funny Cute or strange?!

Since my female betta and albino cory were all alone in my great big tank since the rest of the fish died, I decided to get a couple more corys so the albino wouldn't get lonely once my tank stabilized. And what did I see when I turned the light on this morning? All four corys burying under...

    Impulse Cory Buyer

Love corys, they're just too adorable. My albino cory school all died except for 1, so I got him some friends (an emerald, green, and peppered). So far they haven't really schooled together, but I figure they're still acclimating.

Algae eater with male Betta ?

I was thinking about getting some snails for my divided betta tank. Should I just get 1 snail or a snail for each divided part?

    Mass fish death...

Alright, I did my tests earlier and everything was pretty normal. pH was 7, nitrites 0, nitrates 30-40. However, the ammonia was high; it was .5...could that have come from the dead fish being in there so long? I can't imagine it being that high after doing the huge water change. Anyway, I did...

    Mass fish death...

Yeah, definitely unpleasant. I know better for the future, but I'm really upset my fish had to suffer for my mistake. What should I do for my tank now? Just wait til I test it before doing anything?
