Had a question regarding left over food.
How long does left over food take to produce ammonia?
With the introduction of Discus in the community tank I've been feeding twice a day and the issue is a lot of floating food ends up in the overflow box caught in the strainer or in the sump sitting on...
Decided I just wasn't happy with the tank, not enough going on for my liking. So I did the crazy and took it all down. Was a complete disaster initially, lot of yelling involved haha.
But I think it was all worth it in the end.
Not the cleanest pictures, still have some tidying up to do...
Actually came from Vietnam, sorry thought I responded when I initially saw your comment.
Was a bit worried at first but very happy with them, they looked real strong and healthy so I took the chance and have no regrets.
Stupid me decided I wasn't happy with the look of my 225, just not enough going. So I decided to take down 1 of the mountains down and replace it with a large piece of driftwood. Of course it floated.
Long story short, tried a bunch of methods and completely destroyed all the plants and the...
They actually came from Vietnam, a coworker said he had some family there, long story short, they ended up sending him about 20 and I picked up 6 from him. I am actually very impressed. Initially, the plan was to go German.
Purchased 6 for now, they have eaten twice so far and seem to be doing well. I didn't want to overcrowd the tank as I am still waiting for the other fish to arrive.
Here is the link to the build with new pictures on the last page.
225 Gallon Planted Tank Build
Just some updated pictures and some new friends.
50 x Cardinals
20 x RummyNose
10 x Ottos
5 x Nerite Snails
6 x Discus
Still an empty tank, waiting on the shipment for the remaining fish, but the Discus have arrived and they are doing well.
Just an update, I guess I was wrong about the tap water, they changed a lot this past spring and actually have the pH at a steady 7.6, haven't checked since shutting down the 125, so the rock is raising it about 0.2. So I went out, bought a new pH test kit and have been paying close attention...
The stone is Seiryu, unfortunately I can't remove it, it's kind of the centre piece of the tank, 100lbs.
I think I can confidently say it's a stable pH, been this high for almost 2 months.
Water quality I am also very confident, about 90 Gallon water change per week, very good filtration...
Never had an issue in the past with pH as my tap water was typically 7.
in my 225 I have noticed its closer to 8-8.2, I'm guessing due to the amount of stone in the tank.
I haven't gotten the Discus yet, so it's not a serious concern but I'd like to as soon as possible.
From my research...
Having an issue setting up my Gyres in my 225 Gallon Tank.
72" Wide, 24" High, 30" Deep
I went with Gyres as I liked how they were able to move water plus I eventually plan to move into saltwater down the road.
The tank is heavily planted with carpet and shorter length plants. When the Gyres...

For the sump.
Water flows through Filter Floss, then into 2 more stacks of filter floss and sponge, into Seachem Matrix, then some bioballs floating and on the ground, into one more stack of floss and sponge then the pump.
Working on building a lid as evaporation is a bit too much, need to clean...
Some new photos on the tank with plants.
Disappointed, I took pictures when it was first planted and how empty the tank looked but for some reason they did not save, so can not show the amount of growth of the plants, but it's been incredible how fast they are growing and spreading, did not...
Currently working on my 225 Gallon Tank and wondering if I have enough media in my sump for beneficial bacteria to grow.
Currently it's just a planted tank, but will eventually house about 100+ Tetras.
Not including the floss and foam it currently has:
2L of Seachem Matrix Media
1) He is injecting CO2
2) No Nitrogen Cycle Yet
3) I don't know the exact names but fast growers for sure plenty of new growth everybday.
4) Not dosing Ferts just the initial tabs in the sand
5) I'd say fuzzy and slimy
Will recommend dropping the lights down to 5. Based on your experience...
Asking for a friend as I wasn't much help.
He has a 6ft 120 Gallon Tank he just recently started, plenty of plants. Hasn't started the nitrogen cycle (no food or fish in the tank)
First few days he noticed the white fuzz on some of his sand and wood, I told him that was very common and he could...
I'll have to actually calculate the total cost because it came with a bunch of saltwater accessories and rocks that I ended up selling.
But definitely a steal.
That is a crazy deal, but that is just a tease! How do you even that inside your house? That would be amazing to own.
We just did...
