Help Three Tanks Affected, Swollen Head

From my understanding hole in the head isn't species restrictive though. It might be diet related, I've been feeding mostly thawed blood worms. I though bloodworms had enough nutrients, but that isn't much variety, so its possibly my betta is missing something in his diet. Lately I've been...

Help Three Tanks Affected, Swollen Head

I have a white cheeked goby in my community tank that is dashing itself on the gravel to itch. I will try using api general cure as a half dose. I hear kuhli loaches are tolerant of praziquantel in half dose. TruckJohn has bettas with similar symptoms to delta that might have hole in the head...

A photo update. Delta is still food motivated. No obvious changes, he is as active as normal. Behavior changes in Shimmer, my oldest betta, she is in the divided tank that had my blue female that died. Shimmer is acting unwell, she has a harder time finding food and taking big gulps of air...

Help Received A Dying Betta - Please Help

Keep his tank temperature stable, keep nitrate down to a minimum with small and many water changes. If you can feed him twice a day that would be good, so split the amount of food he eats so he always has food in his gut. Don’t use medication. No salt! No MG! His body is in distress, he’s...

Help Three Tanks Affected, Swollen Head

I know, I had one with no obvious issues, just a swollen belly and then suddenly she died two days later. then the two minnows died just two days after I noticed their issues. And yet, Delta, the first one to show signs is still hanging in there. Well, on the plus side my water is pristine...

Help Three Tanks Affected, Swollen Head

I went to a conference and was away for three days. When I came back the kuhli loaches where hiding, and when I found one it was light, I decided it was an obvious sign of stress. Since they are a scaleless fish I removed 50% water and didn't add salt back in. I think the amount of salt a...

Help Three Tanks Affected, Swollen Head

Delta my Male Betta may have 1 open sore, it’s hard to tell since I don’t have a microscope. His face swelling looks like it has all his scales, and is well defined with out and fuzzy edges. All of my sick fish except delta have died. The hard thing about diagnosis is that all my fish has had...

Help Three Tanks Affected, Swollen Head

Thank you. Unfortunately I don’t think clean water will help in this case, I feel it’s a parasite I can’t see causing reactions in the fish. The salt treatment is having a good effect but until his face is all better I’m going to hold my breath.

    Help Help With Plants Please!!

Elodia(also called anacharis) are great! Stem plants are those that grow stems with multiple leaves along the stem, like elodia. Crypts and Echinodorous are rosette plants, or plants that grow leaves and roots(often sold as potted plants) from one central location.

    Question Why Algae ?

Fahn has a lot of valid points. Also, the idea that you shouldn't put chemicals in your tank is laughable, since humans, plants and food are chemicals. Everything you can breathe, see, ingest or touch is made up of chemicals. All matter, including us, is made of chemicals. So add chemicals...

    Question Why Algae ?

I can't see the first very well, but the second could be brush algae, you can dose Flourish Excel(can cause crypts/anacharis to melt though), which will typically cause the algae to turn orange/brown and fall off. I think your main problem is not enough plants. You are most likely dosing ferts...

    Question Why Algae ?

Well that means its not cyanobacteria, which is blue green, and easily killed with antibiotics. Is it actual strings/treads of algae that drift in the water, or is it clinging to the glass completely and just grows in string-like ways? You can take a picture too, which might help to figure...

    Question Why Algae ?

Stringy algae? is it a olive green, grass green, or Blue green? Figuring out the algae will help solve the issue. On guppies, livebearers are very susceptible to bacterial infections. When I had live bearers the moment one got sick I dosed with antibiotics.

    Question Brown Stuff/fading Plants

True, but this depends on the betta. I have 13 bettas that don't care about snails, and 1 that tears ramshorn snails off the glass and eats them. Nerites are often large enough that bettas can only tear off an antenna, which regrows and the betta eventually ignores the nerite. I've only had...

    Mollie Pregnant?

    Dirted Tank

    C. Wendtii is good in dirted tanks. You still need a fast growing stem plant though. My first dirted tank didn't have any and 5 months later it still has problems with algae. I have hoards of MTS and a nerite that can't clean off even a small section of algae. The algae will take over...

    Mollie Pregnant?

Yeah, if its a girl molly, and if she's lived with male mollies in the last month, then 99% chance she is preggers. Dirted Tank

hmm, I'm thinking you should have some patience and wait to set up your tank until you come back from vacation. You can add the dirt, gravel, but you should have your plants arrive, and then add the water.
  36. trahana

    Dirted Tank

You may have to do a 80% water change if you leave it unplanted for so long, but on the plus side leaving the filter running with no lights on will help cycle the tank. No lights are key, algae shows up really fast in a dirted tank. Make sure you have some fast growing stem plants.

    Question Brown Stuff/fading Plants

Brown algae in a new or redone tank is Diatoms. they eat silicates, and will eventually eat all the silicates in the tank and die off. Help Using Old Water As Houseplant Fertiliser?

I use it to water plants, both potted outdoors and indoors. It is good for the plants but shouldn't be the only source of fertilizer, especially if you have a planted aquarium since the plants use the nutrients.

    Question Neon Tetras

Neon tetras do well with black skirt tetras(another hardy fish) and other tetras. Keep in schools of 6 or more. They are easier to keep healthy then guppies/platies since livebearers can get infections more easily.

    Hair Algae Out Of Control!

Hair algae Must be kept short, your fish can get tangled in it and die. I had it happen just once, and that was enough. You can also kill most hair/bush algae by dosing with Flourish Excel. You dose the full dose, and then do a 50% tank change next week, and dose again. Algae will turn...
