    Am I Crazy To Consider?

You have a lot of the basic gear from what I can see, except for the canister filter. Dump it and buy a Sump. You will be dollars ahead if you do. Your tank is not drilled for a Sump though, that will need to be done. You can use a HOB overflow if you want, but they are a bear to get tuned in...

    Question Beginner Filter Questions

3 words. Great Salt Lake. I live in Utah. The Great Salt Lake has entry but no exit for water, that’s why it has a greater salinity than the ocean. So the only filtration it has is the rock in the water (which in not much) with sponge filters, you cannot clean them good enough to create an...

    75 Gallon Vs 90 Gallon

I agree, get the 90. If it has a corner overflow, that’s a plus. My 75 has the back and I wish it was a corner for scaping reasons.

    Need Help Identifying!

You need to use something to start the cycle. Ammonia, shrimp or flakes works good. I cycled mine using flakes and had it cycled in 2 weeks.

    Need Help Identifying!

I would recommend buying the test kits yourself. API is good for ammonia but sucks for nitrates and nitrites. Red Sea or Salifert are decent for those. How are you cycling the tank?
  20. Wild Bill

    Coral Fading

If you have ammonia, your tank is not cycled. Ammonia should be at zero.

Pic 1 looks like sponges. Pic 2 looks like a coral hitchhiker, pic 3 might be hydroids, pic 4 looks like algae on the bottom. Tank parameters? How old is the tank? Is it cycled?

    Sump Question

That is a freshwater Sump, but with a little modification, you can make it work. Water comes in on the left, over the filters and bio balls (which I would remove the balls and replace with as much live rock rubble as you can fit in there). Inside the big chamber, I would make a refugium. This is...

How Do I Put My Tank On The Right Track?

Welcome to the salty side of fish keeping. First off, research is a very important thing to do before you even start. I have a 75 myself and totally enjoy it. RODI water is very important in this hobby. It helps keep algae down for 1 thing. RODI filters out the chlorine, chloramine, and other...

New Salt Water Tank For New Member

General rule of any S-W tank is the bigger the better. You can figure about 1.5 lbs live rock per gallon of water ( I personally figure the sump as part of the total water volume). Under my 75, I have a 30 gal sump with s refugium. Water comes in the sump and flows over small rubble, goes...

Temp spot on at 78. Nitrates at 10. They never go up or down. My fuge is literally overgrown with Chaeto (been trying to give some away). Nitrates and the big 3 is all I ever test for. I only test for ammonia and nitrites, if there is a problem. In my Sump I keep carbon, skimmer and a ton of...
