I vote for glowlight tetras! I know they're an old standby but they're attractive and not so brightly coloured that they'll outcompete your angels for attention!

Dropsy Or Constipation? Male Betta Fish! Help Please!

How much do you feed him? How long ago did you feed him? What are your parameters? How often do you do water changes and how much do you change each time? How long have you had him? His swim bladder is pronounced but it's hard to tell if that's from constipation or perhaps tumours in his abdomen.

I'm having the same dilemma! Though on a much smaller scale. I have 4 angels in my 50 and waiting to see who hooks up and hoping it's 2 of the veils. One of those is turning out to be a pearlscale! The 4th one is a black marble standard fin. I like that one but I'm new to veils and kind of want...

    Biz's Bn Pleco Breeding Journal!

In critters that have XY sex determination, the ones with 2 X chromosomes will be female and the ones with a single X and a single Y will be male. There are variations on this but I won't complicate the discussion. Now. To put it bluntly, the X chromosome has a lot more stuff going on than just...

    Biz's Bn Pleco Breeding Journal!

Right, maybe. Are you trying to breed for homozygous longfins? If yes then you'll still need a homozygous male unless this trait is sex-linked AND they have the same XX/XY-type sex determination. If the trait is not sex-linked though then you could have a homozygous male and a heterozygous...

Genes sometimes have more than one function. Famous example: Sickle-cell Anemia is deadly but a person who gets only one copy of the gene is immune to malaria. Hence, carriers of the gene survive and potentially produce more offspring, some of whom will have 2 copies and die of the disorder, but...

Ideas For 29 Gallon Community Tank?

Definitely! I've kept more cories than that on the same footprint and they were very active and healthy. As for the rasboras you should be safe with 8-10. I haven't kept those though. I think they're about the same size as glologht tetras though so I'm basing my guesstimate on those.

Good advice there @tokiodreamy. There are albino versions of Sterbai and Bronze cories AFAIK but other than that the colour variations are more than skin deep! What A Can I Have In A 28 Gallon

I'm on the West side myself. I know there's one in Vancouver for sure, they ship by Harbour Air (at least to Victoria) but you might also want to check around the LFSs. A lot of keepers of expensive aquaria over there! Depending on what you want you should be able to find it.

New Angelfish Problems - Still Not Resolved Help

You can buya liquid test kit for GH and KH or you can use a test strip. They have those tests too though they might not be as precise. If your KH is low then they get used up more quickly and the pH can drop because there's no buffer left. If you put carbonate-containing rocks or shells in the...

New Angelfish Problems - Still Not Resolved Help

GH is general hardness and KH is carbonate hardness. They're different but related. The one you're most interested in is the KH because that's what acts as a buffer and helps to prevent pH swings.

Crushed coral (or crushed oyster shells or limestone, etc.) might not help but if a low KH is not the reason that your pH is crashing then it shouldn't hurt. It may boost it enough to keep your cycle going and your fish alive until you figure out what is going on. Did you get a GH/KH test kit?
