Hey guys! I know it’s been long-time no hear from. But I wanted to show y’all how the 265 is going. For Christmas I got a CO2 setup. The plant growth has EXPLODED! I use 1BPM and a reactor to infuse it into the water and pump from the chamber directly into the tank. This is my Amazon Sword...

Question Help Id These Snails Please...

The babies are cone shaped but quickly round out when they get a little bigger. Their ‘spout’ (as I’ve come to call it) is the same color as the rest of their body. Which is a dark taupe.

Question Help Id These Snails Please...

Thank you I was beginning to believe they were live bearers due to the sheer numbers I’m seeing. I can spot my ramshorn snails clutches and my bladder snail clutches. Though I have a lot of guppy grass I never see any other clutches and I check daily. So lie bearing makes the most sense...

Question Help Id These Snails Please...

I’ll definitely do some research on that. That would be great. I’ve gone from not enough snails to feed my puffers and supplementing them with frozen food to more than I can use and giving my puffers frozen as a treat. Which, of course, is great for their teeth. I really do wish I could...

Question Help Id These Snails Please...

As you can see they get fairly large. About 2 1/2” in diameter. They also have an odd behavior of burrowing themselves into the sand substrate. I have noticed since moving these guys in in have to do a LOT more water changes. They certainly devour anything they can and almost immediately poop...

Question Help Id These Snails Please...

I’ve been doing aquariums for 40+ years. One of the things I like about this hobby is that we’re always learning! A year and a half ago I got given a BUNCH of snails. I put some in my tanks and some in my outdoor pond. This summer I managed to find that the ones I’d put in the pond had survived...

Everything is going very well. Things are growing beautifully. This is the Amazon sword I got a year ago. I put my hand in the pic to give you a size reference. This is the Bolbitus I got about 10 months ago. The Anubias is also happy. I rearranged after we got carpet and had to do a full...

Ok guys I’ve got a question... I’ve got a CO2 setup on the 265 now. I used a non-branded CO2 reactor. There’s no diffuser in it but the water is churned by and impeller while CO2 is injected into the chamber. The longer I use it the more it fills up with ‘air’ and less and less water dwells in...

I couldn’t pass up this picture. My cat Misty loves to sit by the bay window watching the bird feeder. The birds are now used to her doing so and know they are safe even though she’s right there.

Ewww! I never have understood how people tolerate that. I have 7 cats and none of them do that. Anytime I’ve had one that did they started crate training all over no matter the age. It’s never happened twice with the same cat. We’ve had all our cats for years now and I’ve not had to deal with...

Is it painted or wood stained? If it is finished like most stands are it doesn’t have polyurethane on it it’s just stained and polished. I have a homemade cat pee smell remover. After using the enzymes if the smell is still there mix 5 drops of clove oil and 1tsp lemon juice to a small spray...

Pool filter sand is also called diatomaceous earth. It’s a silica sand that has thousands of tiny sharp edges. It is often used by organic farmers as a way to kill bugs b/c when an insect crawls across it their exoskeleton is shredded. These thousands of edges also translates to lots of surface...

I’d run a large HOB and a canister filter. You can get a SunSun canister filter w/ UV that is rated for a 100g for less than $70 on eBay. That’s what I run on my 95. It also has an undergravel and HOB.

I agree with jenmur. He looks like a common pleco to me too. Here’s a picture of mine. He’s 16” long about 5” wide. He’s about 4-6 years old. He’s in a 265. As I understand it, they can get up to 24” inches long. So whatever you get for him-make sure it’s big!

We had a Starling make a nest in a cabinet we keep near our back porch to house our pond and hot tub ‘stuff’ in. This is shortly after they hatched. That last egg did hatch so there were four in total. This was week #2. You can just see their flight feathers beginning to come in. This is...

Thanks, that means a LOT! On that note I knew you’d all want to know. My angelfish Popeye finally gave in. He was eating and swimming around fine this morning but by this evening he couldn’t keep his ‘balance’ anymore and got stuck in the corner. The tumor on his mouth is about the size of a...

I decided to do a separate post for my UV Sterilization and leak alarms. This UV unit doesn’t have its own pump so is tied into the plumbing for the sump. It does not sterilize 24/7. I have it running for two hours at a time five times a day. Shortly after I got it I was in the stand doing...

I’ve now decided that this tank needs to be redone. Since it was an experiment I used my own dirt under a sand cap. What I’ve found is that the clay we have here dissolves down into a very fine silt that leaves the water cloudy after and in-between water changes. The RCS population has exploded...

    Aquarium "life Hacks"

I often use turkey basters to feed thawed frozen foods to my fish. They’re cheap and make target feeding easier. Also they’re cheap enough that if I feel I can’t get them clean enough in between feedings I can toss it and get another. (I get them at Dollar Tree.)

Quick question... I’m probably just being a nervous mommy but I just want to be sure... I thought I’d try something different for Godzilla (16” common) and give him a sweet potato. Okay we’ve decided to use a CO2 reactor. I’ve ordered two different kinds. When they both get here we’ll scratch & spit and then decide which one to use -or maybe use both. We plan on putting in it between the return pump and the tank returns so the water will be as saturated with CO2 as...
