    Check out this runner!!!

from the research i've done on banana plants, that appears to be a lilly pad that your banana plant is sending up. You can either cut it off early or let it bloom. If you cut it off after it unfolds, you should be able to let it float until it grows roots and then plant it for a new banana...

    The completed 20 gallon!

Males can definitely have the black on their pelvic fins. Mine did as well. For a while I thought it was a female because the blue would shine through the black spot. Then he grew a giant dorsal fin and asserted his masculinity lol. Nice tank

Wanting to start a new tank...Advice?

With cichlids its usually best to just choose one and go with that. Anglefish need tall tanks and room to swim. I wouldn't do more than one in a 29, but thats just me. A 45 or 55 gallon might be better and you could probably do 2 in the 45 or 3 in the 55, but you would want to be weary of...

Are you thinking african cichlids or american cichlids? You'll probably want to decide this before a true minimum tank size can be given.

    20 Gallon Long Redone

Sorry I've been really busy. My classes are ridiculous this semester. Here are a few pictures and some quick updates. The new pygmy swords are in the process of melting off their old leaves, but a few of them have produced multiple runners already. Some of the runners can be seen at the...

    Stocking a classroom 5g

I would definitely just put them in a temporary container with old water and slowly add your tank water over an hour or two. Just wanted to make sure about the ACF thing. I know that frogs hunt based on motion, so if a shrimp wanders to close to the frog, it may be snapped at. I have no idea...

You say they are big, are you sure they aren't ACF's? They can be quite a bit bigger and I think are considered an invasive species or something. Sometimes thats just how luck goes though. I'm sure they'll love their new homes and diets. Are you going to get them their own plate?

How to improve filtration and when to replace filter cartridge?

There are pre made sponge filters, I believe the brand is Lustar Hydro sponges, which are built to run off of your airline. They're only a couple bucks I think. I have one running in my tank right now and it provides great aeration and good extra biofiltration as well. The extra home for...

    Question Peaceful stocking fish

I would like to add that I used tetra safe start in my 10 gallon when I first started it, and it worked like a charm. I believe I've heard of only one other brand that actually works but I think it was only available in Europe or something.

How to completely change your stock?

Your rams breeding would be a concern to other fish. You would definitely want to avoid other bottom dwellers in a 20 in this case. Top swimming fish should be alright as should platies who would learn to avoid the rams.

55 Gallon Tank HELP - need advice after power outage

Most fish can survive lower temperatures for short amounts of time. They are cold blooded however so they move a little slower at cool temps. The cold may have stressed them out which may open them up to disease. Be vigilant for any signs for at least a week or two. Other than that, make...

    Tetra Aquasafe Questions

usually the top of the cap is used for measuring for Aquasafe. I used it just fine and also used seachem's ferts with it. Aquasafe works just fine, although if you can find seachem prime, it has the added benefit that it supposedly detoxifies ammonia/nitrites/nitrates as well.

How Do I Approach an LFS about selling them my fry?

I would try to talk to an owner or whoever is most in charge. Easy for me to say as the owner is always around at my local store. Endlers aren't really complicated, they're essentially just small guppies so if the person in charge doesn't know what they are, you could describe them as that...

How to improve filtration and when to replace filter cartridge?

I had the top fin 10 and you don't need to replace the cartridge often at all. Just rinse it in tank water every month or so. If I remember correctly, the cartridge is a cloth pouch over a plastic frame. If you need to replace the pouch, put a new pouch on the frame and put the old pouch...

    Stocking a classroom 5g

I have read multiple times that a trio of sparkling gourmis can be kept in a 5 gallon. A trio of male endlers should also work. You can do 1male 2 females if you are looking for fry. Other than that, shrimp and snails will be your best bet.

depends on the day for me, most of the time I enjoy it, but usually once or twice a month there's just a day when there's a lot going on and I just want to be done with it. I need to get a better gravel vac as mine drops too many things and I spend too much time going over parts I've already...

Your male reminds me of my streak, he got sick with some kind of swim bladder disease though. I would go as far as saying most of the store bought guppies are of rather weak stock. They need to bring in some wild genes or something. Any fry survive?

    Will this be overstocked ?

Bio-load wise, your plan would be ok if you kept up maintenance. Unfortunately, those are both active fish which are a little too active for a 10 and they would be cramped in there. 4-5 cardinals may do alright but my suggestion would be to start over with the stocking and include either...

    Question Peaceful stocking fish

The only product that I know of that works is Tetra Safe Start (TSS). It is recommended that there be some fish in the tank as an ammonia source. I think it takes 2 weeks for the tank to be fully cycled using TSS. Only cycled filter media will give a truly instant cycle.

    Question Peaceful stocking fish

Otos are fairly hardy once you get them acclimated but should be in a stable tank to start out with. They also need plenty of algae. Many of the popular schooling fish (barbs, tetras, danios) will nip among themselves but only the very weak specimens will have any issue with this. As long as...

You could go with just the Galaxy Rasboras/CPDs. They are extremely small and also a bit shy unless they have a really well planted tank. If you add quite a few plants and a background, they should feel right at home. It might be a little tight for them though and they would do better in a 10g.

Suggest good HARDY, easy to care for fish please

Endlers may also be referred to as endler guppies. They appear very similar but are quite a bit smaller. Many guppies that are sold today are actually hybridized with endlers and stay a little slimmer and may have smaller tails. Be careful buying guppies as they are very inbred and may not be...

Suggest good HARDY, easy to care for fish please

If you don't want a betta, platies are a good way to go. If you can get non-pregnant females you could probably keep 2 or 3. Bettas may be a bit more interactive though. Just don't pick up one that looks too sick in the store.

Question Is it possible to DIY your own LED's for a Planted tank

Seems like from what I was reading that you just want to wire up a couple HO LEDs and fix them to a lid. Arrange the LEDs so that their cone of light just overlaps at the substrate. There may have been something about a lens in their as well.
