Transporting Fish, Plants, And Tanks In A Move?

I would definitely invest in some micro USB air pumps for the transport, the fish will thank you. As for everything else, just make sure the filter doesn't completely dry out, you could put it in a bag or leave the tank as is, whatever is more convenient for you. The fish should be more than...

    Question Discus Temperature Debate

Very true. When you think about it, fish are designed to never show weakness, or feeling under the weather. They may look visibly fine, but there's no way to truly tell if there's any distress. Of course, situations like bad parameters and diseases are impossible to hide because of the gravity...

    Question Discus Temperature Debate

Thank you for your input, makes me feel better about transitioning to lower temps :) . Oxygen was always a main concern of mine, because it's not something that could be measured, usually, unlike toxins like Nitrites, Nitrates etc. That is true, if you go into their natural environment, there...

    Question Discus Temperature Debate

Yeah, it's funny, if you go on Simply Discus and ask around, you'll get 50/50 answers, but both end up working fine. I've always thought 84 was good since I have other fish in there, but I might be able to push that even further down with benefits.

    Question Discus Temperature Debate

To my understanding, the correct, exact Discus temperature hasn't been fully concluded. I hear of some people keeping their Discus at temps as high as 88-90F, and as low as 80-82F, which is a very big range. There's pro's and con's to both, I've always kept them around 86F when they're young...

    Question Cupramine Question

Yeah that's what I was going to do, but I was wondering when I could stop doing that. Like how many 50% water changes do I need to do so the combination is not toxic and I can add it in within 48 hours.

    Question Cupramine Question

From Seachem themselves "Because Prime, like all water conditioners, is a reducing agent, it has the potential to reduce the Cupramine from the safe Cu2+ form to a very toxic Cu+ form. The best option would be to add Stability to boost your biological filter and get a test kit that can...

    Question Cupramine Question

Well yes of course, I actually raised it to 88 for the first three days now it's back down to 86. I'm on the 6th day of treatment currently with the Cupramine so it's already too late to try and just use temp, plus I wanted to make sure those buggers are gone for good.

    Question Cupramine Question

So, to my understanding, Copper which is in Cupramine is toxic if you use Prime Water Conditioner before it fully dissipates in the water after 48 hours. What levels exactly do they start to become non-toxic? Seachem states it’s toxic, but not the levels at which it isn’t afterwards. I would ask...

    Stress Treatments

All those products are pretty much the same, IMO. Usually has Aloe Vera to promote healing, then some sort of slime coat repairer. I've used stresscoat with sick fish and have had great success with it.

    Internal Parasites

Multiple runs of either or both, like multiple full treatments. Depending on the severity, you can do both or one, sorry for confusion. Internal Parasites

It's nearly impossible to tell what kind of internal parasite you may have, unless you have a extremely expensive microscope! Whenever I have a fish with internal parasites, I typically use General Cure and Prazipro, eliminates 99% of any parasite they may have. I always just deworm any new fish...

If Anyone's Looking To Buy From Uncle Sam's Discus

Recently I was trying to acquire the last Discus to my little family, but I wasn't quite sure where to buy from quite yet. After countless hours of research, I came down to a narrow few options. Uncle Sam's was one of them, in which he was also having a 50% off sale, I noticed he has very...

Should be fine, looks more like mostly soft tissue damage. The best thing to heal wounds is clean water, adding a bit of salt wouldn't hurt.

    Gourami Attacking Female

I've been told personally you shouldn't keep any Gourami's together, other than Pink Kissing's and stuff like that. Or breeding, but most people pull the female out right after they lay their eggs. I'm not saying it won't work, I'm just saying it's more unlikely than likely.

    Gourami Attacking Female

Sometimes Male's can either pester the females, or just be plain out aggressive. Opalines are actually on more of the aggressive side of Gouramis. I have a female Gourami with a bunch of small fish, and she's actually very peaceful, depends on fish to fish with their personality. That's why...

    220 Planted Discus Tank

Filtration Firstly, for filtration, I would definitely go with a sump on a tank this large. It'll save you a lot of time when it comes to maintenance, and they'd be your overall best option if you know how to set one up. I probably would go for around a total of 70 gallons, whether you have...

    Discus Strain Identification

I recently have acquired a new Discus from my LFS. I special ordered a Blue Scorpion, and that's what it was labeled. New Aquarium Cycle - High Nitrites

I haven't cycled a tank in over a year because I have so much established media, but what I used to do is pour a whole container of Tetra Start in my aquarium, and everything really did itself. For the first week there was lots of Ammonia, that got converted into an insane amount of Nitrites...

New Aquarium Cycle - High Nitrites

All those nitrites are coming from the Ammonia your dosing. I'd stop dosing it until the nitrites get under 5 ppm, at least. Once you start seeing nitrates is when I'd stop dosing and wait for the nitrites to fully convert to nitrates, or you'll be forever cycling lol.

    Stocking Help

The only thing that really eats Green Spot Algae in my experience is Zebra Nerite Snails. You could also dose your tank with phosphates, that's what it really stems from, low phosphate levels. And the Aquaclear filters are great because you can fully customize the media that's inside, no filter...

    Stocking Help

New Aquarium Cycle - High Nitrites

That's just a part of the cycle, it's good your Ammonia got converted to Nitrites. The Nitrite stage is actually the longest, slowly all those nitrites will be converted to nitrates, that's when you should do water changes and get them down to 10 ppm or less, then, you're ready for fish!

Danio's do really well in large schools, I would suggest a bit more. One Bristle should be more than enough, they're the hardest working Pleco I've ever seen. Stringy White Poop

I always pre-treat new expensive fish with a dose of Prazipro and General cure, haven't had a parasite problem in over a year so, I'd say those two combined are pretty effective. Most of your common internal parasite problems, I'd say 99% or so are combated by those two meds.

Help Oh Why Is My Ph So High?

Using chemicals won't keep your ph the same forever, it'll crash or skyrocket at some point. Try more natural remedies to cure high ph, or just work with what you got, that's what I...

    Help Algae Issues!!

Looks great! My one recommendation is move the heater in somewhere of more flow. Ie in front of the filter intake, or output. It might melt those plants in front of it, which could explain the lost of color, plants prefer colder water than hot. It'll also heat better in a place of better flow.

    Help Algae Issues!!

I wouldn't look at algae as a bad thing, it's impossible to have zero of it with no c02, it occurs with there's an imbalance in either c02, nutrients, or lighting. In your situation, I'd dose a week at most with ferts since you have all slow growing plants, and if you have high intensity...

    Help Algae Issues!!

I'm guessing your slow growing plants got overwhelmed with a large amount of nutrients compared to normal. Everything left over in the root tabs are in your water column, that's why they tell you to shove those things way to the bottom, but in your case you couldn't really do much about that...
