Would This 10 Gallon Column Tank Work?

I'd add everything before you start the cycle so there's more places for the beneficial bacteria to grow. What are you using to cycle your tank, liquid Ammonia or fish food?

10 Gallon Tank New 10 Gallon Betta Tank.

I use mopani wood in all my betta tanks, you can get some really unusual pieces pretty cheap. Anubias are probably the most low maintenance plants apart from Marimo moss balls, (I have 5 in each tank, bettas love them) Water lettuce is a good floating plant. If you want really low maintenance...

Please Help Me Save My Betta. Shredded Find Within Hours.

I don't see any obvious fin rot but it's hard to tell when we don't know what caused the shredded fins, also when a fish injures its fins there's always a chance it could develop, that's why we recommend really clean water as the first treatment. Try to keep Ammonia as low as possible with water...

Please Help Me Save My Betta. Shredded Find Within Hours.

I'm in the UK and use the "Hidom Aquarium Heater 50w HT-2050" in all my 10 gallon tanks. They're around £10.00 on Amazon and Ebay and you can set the temperature which should be around 27°C. You'll also want a thermometer to put inside the tank if you get an adjustable heater just so you can see...

Please Help Me Save My Betta. Shredded Find Within Hours.

He should be fine if you keep his water clean (lots of water changes until the tank is fully cycled again) and don't overdo it with medications! His fins really don't look that bad to me. I think where you went wrong is the starting over new, you should never risk losing your cycle if you don't...

5 Gallon Tank Stocking Suggestions For A Marineland Portrait 5g Tank?

The tank does look nice! However I'd always go with a wider tank over a tall one when getting a tank this size. Fish appreciate as much swimming space as they can get and from my experience even a betta would be happier having more space to swim around horizontally rather than up and down.

Please Help With My Lil Betta :(

You definitely aren't cycled with 0.25 Ammonia and 0 Nitrate. It can take multiple months to get a steady cycle going in such a small tank and like mentioned above you should never replace the filter cartridge unless it's virtually falling apart, that's where all the beneficial bacteria live...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

You can put the fish food in a clean stocking or something similar so it doesn't gunk up the whole tank, and water changes aren't really necessary with a fishless cycle until the very end when you want to bring the Nitrates right down. I've not used Stability myself but it should work fine and...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

You obviously have experience and know what you're doing, but for a beginner who might not know as much about cycling and water parameters I'd say it's always best to be cautious and go the risk free route even if it takes slightly longer. An I've also cycled many tanks myself over the years...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

I feel stupid arguing about this on a fish forum haha, but I remember the first ever fish I got before I learned about cycling and all that jazz and then the month of stress and constant water changes trying to keep the Ammonia and Nitrite down while it cycled. It wasn't a very fun experience...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

I'm also still not understanding why anyone would suggest doing a method with some potential risks over one with zero risks? Also just because a fish looks fine after a cycle doesn't mean that the exposure to Ammonia and Nitrite didn't negatively effect it in some way, which may or may not show...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

At the end of the day it's up to the OP to decide. If you wanna risk your bettas health in the long run then do a fish in cycle, if you wanna be 100% safe and know that your fish is going straight into good conditions then do a fishless cycle. I really don't understand why people on here are...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

The Ammonia and Nitrite should both be 0ppm and the Nitrate should be under 40ppm, if you have 0 Nitrate your tanks isn't cycled unless it's packed full of live plants that are feeding off the Nitrate. You need to be feeding the empty tank with either fish food or liquid Ammonia until it's...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

Yeah it's fine in an emergency situation when you already have the fish but I wouldn't ever tell anyone to cycle with a fish if they really don't have to. If even hardy fish like bettas are in a tank with Ammonia and Nitrite while it cycles it's gonna negatively effect their health in the long...

Question Can I Put My Fish In The Tank Yet

I really wouldn't advise putting a betta through a cycle if you don't have to. The only time I ever did a fish in cycle was with my first ever betta and he had nothing but health problems, all my bettas since then that have gone into fully cycled tanks have had no issues. I'd save yourself the...

10 Gallon Tank Tank Not Cycling

I agree that using Prime water conditioner is a good idea while cycling and something like Tetra Safe Start is good in my experience to help speed the cycle up, but like said previously you need to get that Ammonia down with water changes and if you do use something like TSS you need to wait 48...

    Betta Has Turned Completely White

    Betta Has Turned Completely White

I'd test your water parameters just to be safe if I were you. You want 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite and Nitrate under 40ppm. Also with a 5 gallon tank you really should be doing a 50% water change at least once a week to keep him in the best possible health. I hope he's doing good anyway and he was just...

Question Best Way To Feed Betta?

It depends on how big the pellets are and how active your fish is but if you're concerned that he isn't getting enough just add 1 extra pellet to one of the feedings and see how he does. Also that old myth that their stomach is the same size as their eye is just stupid and very untrue, so I'd...

    Hi! Intro+ Questions

Really that confused you? Obviously I meant a small fish as the OP was referencing Bettas. I assume most people know that large fish need large tanks I was just saying that 5gal is my minimum when I see a lot of people say 2-3 gallon is the minimum.

Question Best Way To Feed Betta?

Haha yeah I know they're tiny aren't they. But my bettas for whatever reason do seem to prefer them in smaller pieces and I kinda like that is takes them longer than 5 seconds to eat them all. They spend 5 minutes swimming around searching for all the tiny pieces and I feel like it probably...

    Hi! Intro+ Questions

I'd say 5 gallon is the minimum size you should ever put any fish in. I personally prefer 10 gallons just for the extra swim space and they don't cost much more than a 5 gallon so might as well give them the extra space if you can. Whenever possible always do a fishless cycle! It may take a...

Question Best Way To Feed Betta?

I feed my Bettas 6 Hikari Bio Gold pellets every night half an hour before lights out, I crush each pellet to make them into tiny pieces and sprinkle a bit at a time in front of my boys as they had trouble eating them whole. Please Help Save My Stewie

Sorry to see that Stewie isn't doing well! There are a few things you could try such as Furan 2, Maracyn II or API Fungus Cure. New Betta Food Question

Have you tried crushing the pellets you have into smaller pieces? My Bettas had trouble eating the pellets whole even though they're tiny. I'm in the UK so I can't really help you there. New Tank Build

Cool to see that you're getting a bigger tank! Fish keeping becomes addictive and expensive very quickly haha. Fluval is a decent brand however their tanks are way overpriced in my opinion. Unpopular Non-fish Opinions?

    - The Beatles are highly overrated, they had some catchy songs but nothing spectacular. Give me Queen or David Bowie any day! - Being Vegan isn't healthy long term - Cats are terrible compared to Dogs Also isn't baseball just copied from a game played by schoolkids in the UK called rounders?

When Do I Do My First Water Change?

Those reading mean that the cycle has just begun. If you're doing a fishless cycle you want to get you're Ammonia up to 3ppm, using fish food is fine but can create a mess in the tank, some people suggest putting it in a new unwashed stocking. The Ammonia will then gradually fall over the next...

When Do I Do My First Water Change?

Do you know what your water parameters are? (That's the Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate readings) I don't think the cloudy water has much to do with your cycle as it's only been 4 days and cycles can take months to complete. If you're doing a fishless cycle you need to have a constant source of...

    New 10g Tank. Plant Recommendations.

If the leaves on your Anubias get too bad just slice them off with a sharp blade near the rhizome and it will sprout new leaves that won't melt as they are used to your water. Just make sure you never bury the rhizome or roots as that can make them rot.

    New 10g Tank. Plant Recommendations.

My favourite plant that requires zero maintenance and is super slow growing so it won't take over the whole tank is Anubias, you can get them in all different sizes and you just have to attach them to some wood/rock and then just let them do their own thing.

    Question Unpopular Fish Opinions

It should deter certain people from owning fish that's the whole point!
