I love betta's,
Cycling the tank aside, the tank should have good water quality. Meaning, watch your specs. Also, they don't appreciate currents. So a small HOB with a high water level (No; or nearly no "drop") and a sponge filter are what worked best for me over the years.
Mine seemed to...
I ordered a betta from Aquabid. Got a bunch of fry. Thankfully they all grew up to be guppy fry-- I had gups anyway, so it worked.
The person was nice, I apologized since I could not send them back, it was far too cold in VA to send back to CA in such a short time span. The person sent my betta...
My best friends and my God Sons, their boys live in AUS. Sometimes, we get into conversations about the weather, simple right? NOPE!
We spend half the opening converting temps, measurements etc.
I can see how it can be vexing on both sides.
Now that is cool info
The Joys of a polyglot!
I don't envy them at all!
It's cool. But My brain is just not wired that way.
I can carry a conversation on a very basic level in French, Spanish, ASL and even Hindi.
Tried to learn mandarin and failed!
Kiddo will have Language tutors. Because I...
Like I said, It's not something I use a ton in places like this, but I get that kids grew up using this new Seudolanguage. English is a living language for a reason. We are constantly adding to it, changing it etc.
Though, I do wish "bootylicious" had not made it into the dictionary! *Huge eye...
I add snails- Yes, even pond snails to all my tanks.
They are a great clean up addition to any tank.
They removed dead stuff, that the human eye can't see, they clean algae, and are a hoot to watch.
I have one super large pond snail we named Crush. He likes to float upside down on the water's...
Ntur was the shorthand we were taught in school. They may have a new one now, but in 1980something that was the standard. WAAAAY back when we were learning to take shorthanded notes on a dos based pc.
Yep, I'm that old!
And again I think most people try to avoid using any confusing...
Yeah, I agree back when we were kids, there were no pcs, cell phones. Heck call waiting was a new "thing" and cable was a "fad."
And no, Mr. Henningway did not let us take a calculator to class either.
Which sucked for me, because I have a type of dyslexia that is not compatible with numbers...
Ever have spell check stuff up and tell you that something you spelled correctly is wrong?
Write a medical paper or a technical paper in word sometime. It's a freaking nightmare!
Kids today are not TAUGHT anything. They are TAUGHT to PASS TESTS!.
Which is perhaps why I will hire a...
Yes & No. It's the abbreviation. Most def. but not something one would see millennials typing on their phones. I guess that is the dif?
It does not bother me at all. If I don't know I ask.
But I tend to be pretty fluid, and not stuck in my ways. A byproduct of growing up at the dawn of the...
I usually type on 2 pcs @ once.
Because I'm online while working trying to not fall asleep and drool all over my cell phone!
Owning your own business has its upsides, but there are a lot of downsides too.
One- being overly busy while still being bored out of your gourd!
So, I sometimes find...
I picked up some other snails from the same store to run a fishless cycle in the new tank---
Someone laid eggs. Not sure who, the new Ram or Crush, or his buddy Blackbeard the black pond snail. but We are excited to see who done it!
I find odd critters.
One such example is Crush, our overly large, very funny pond snail.
The LFS guy plucked him off the plant we bought a while back and tossed him on a towel to die.
I rescued him, brought him home, along with the other items we picked up.
He's the size of a nickel now and...
I got some seeding rocks from my LFS, I asked them to pluck out the ones that had vibrant green algae growing on it. Like little puff balls of yummy goodness!
I remove the brown stuff because it's not pretty, but I love the bright green stuff.
Look into Temporary support posts. They install in Seconds and should be able to take the load until you can move.
Either way good luck, and when you go to buy your place, make sure the inspector factors in the weight of your tanks when checking the floor joists. You can always ask...
Hire a handyman to sister ALL the floor joists. It's a simple process and if the home is that old, should prolly be done anyway.
Once that's done you should be able to park a F350 fully loaded on the floor without an issue!
Or I can tell you how to DIY it if you prefer. When we did my...
We've had him for 3 days, and he's not eating. We bought the little bottle of frog pellets. I add 3 pellets per day, they all sink to the sub where the shrimp eventually locate and eat them, any tricks or tips on getting mine to eat?
My tank set up is about the same as yours, 10g w/ plants, heat.
What hardness do you have?
They are picky little things, they will adjust, but if your tank water is vastly different from what they came from only the most adaptable will survive. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But Check out this site for some other tips...
I live in Fl. Our house does not have heat, we don't usually need it, as today it's 80 degrees out!
But here last week we had 2 nights where it got rather chilly. mid to lower 30's, but not freezing.
Anyway, We turned the stove on to try and keep the living room warm for the fish and wrapped...
I had guppies for years.
The sunken skeletal look in mine was always due to just old age/poor breeding.
Keep an eye on the ones you know the age of, I suspect that they were just old and worn out dear.
Sorry to hear about your losses though. Never fun to have to say goodbye.
You may wish to...
We picked up some snails yesterday. We got a steal of a deal on a tank! 15$ 10g w/ heater full filers etc.
So we are slowly setting up the new tank, and rather than wait forever to get a cycle going, we hit the lfs's to help them unload some of their pest snails.
Got a few rabbit snails, a...
Oh, An issue I'd love to have!
If you want to unload some, and don't feel safe shipping in the winter, just wait until spring, or, send them to me down here in FL! It is warm here...
I will pay to have them fed-exed!
My husband was hired to work in their warehouse nearby a few Christmases ago.
4 weeks later they laid off every last FT hire but told them ALL to reapply and they would be brought back as PT Seasonal at a much lower pay rate.
I do not deal with shifty comps.
I just don't. There are too many...
I bought a few sad bettas in my time.
I feel bad for them in those tiny nasty little cups.
Is it supporting the practice? Maybe, but all life has value IMHO and I can't stand to see them suffer like that.
I've only had 2 kick the bucket before the 2 yr mark.
One my little sister killed by...
I don't think it's be worth it either as we only get UPS or Fed Ex here.
USPS does not deliver in our area, we have to go pick things up and they don't let us know when things arrive in a timely fashion.
But you're sweet.
Have a wonderful Holiday season!
I've looked for them ever since, but never found them again.
Not sure if they were Gen Mod (glow fish) or some off the wall breed that I've never seen before, but my beta loved having them as tank mates.
@WTFish? Someone sent me some neon green tetras once. No idea what they were called though.
I think they sent me someone's order by mistake, but he said not to send them back.
Called it a "gift" they were wild looking in the right lighting.
I used to have a saltwater tank that I had rescued Needle fish, Star fish, and the odd seahorse in.
Where I lived there was an area of beach that they would get trapped on during outgoing tides if the high tide was higer than normal, like before an approaching hurricane.
After a big storm, I'd...
Yeah, a baby one would, but you'd have to upgrade pretty quickly, depends on how soon you plan on moving.
Bubble eye Mollies are pretty cool little fish.
Edit Goldfish not mollies. My dang phone's auto correct is going to make me kill it with a spork! Grr.
