I have never heard of anything like this, very strange. However, the pond snails may be eating the natural slime coat on your fish. I have heard of this in plecos who eat the natural slime coat of goldfish, just not by snails but I guess its possible for other bottom feeders. This can only...

Question What’s This On My Betta?

Developing darker shades on top of lighter colour layers can be a good sign that the fish is doing well in its environment. So if he didn't have it before, consider this his way of showing he is getting comfortable in his home.

Question What’s This On My Betta?

It's most likely natural coloration. Because of his piebald traits his head is a very light colour, so it is quite normal to see small darker shades of colour on flesh with lighter pigmentation. It's very unlikely that it's something to worry about, the fish looks to be in great health.
