    Flowerhorns, Endlers, Aquariums - Colorado

I am going to be moving and need to find homes for my fish. I'm trying to avoid shipping. I have 4 flowerhorns with tanks, a couple hundred k class Endlers, BN plecos, a 90 gallon drilled aquarium with 2 jack dempsey's and a blood parrot. I live on the Western slope but I might be able to...

    Want A Flowerhorn. Advise?

She was already faded when I got her. I've had her about 8 or 9 months. I do know the fader gene is a recessive trait that originates form Midas / Red devils. I also think it's closely linked to the gold base gene which my FH has. They start off mostly black and slowly fade to their gold/pink...

    Want A Flowerhorn. Advise?

She's a fader, so when they are babies, they are black and somewhat ugly. She is the most expensive fish I've owned. I found a few pictures of very similar fish 0n google by searching for bosnai fader flowerhorn. I don't know much about lineage, but supposedly the Thai breeder specialized in...

Thank you, I'm very fond of her. I got her from a guy that imported from Thailand. Not sure the original source.

Shortbody Flowerhorn Looks Like Having Trouble Eating

Metronidazole and Praziquantel are safe and will not harm fish, even if they don't have worms. I personally use PraziPro https://www.amazon.com/Hikari-Usa-AHK73251-Prazipro-Aquarium/dp/B001D6SKDO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530586964&sr=8-3&keywords=prazipro I've never had any side effects. Many...

Shortbody Flowerhorn Looks Like Having Trouble Eating

They usually have trouble eating or grow super slow if they worms. I couldn't find any information on the medicine you got. Do you know what the ingrediens are? Metronidazole and Praziquantel are usually best at killing internal parasites.

Shortbody Flowerhorn Looks Like Having Trouble Eating

Have you treated for internal parasites? Internal parasites are fairly common in Flowerhorns. I always treat for parasites on my newly arrived flowerhorns.

Video: Fry In Less Than 10 Gallons--the Endlers Prove Me Wrong Again

I had a pair of chili endlers in a 5 gallon. They easily had 50 babies in there. I need to find video of that tank.

    Flowerhorns

I have four flowerhorns. 18 inches doesn't happen. 10-12 inches is the most common. I keep all of mine solo. They aggressive and don't mix well with others. 75 gallons is usually a good size for a single flowerhorn.

    An Accidental Flowerhorn Owner :)

Don't be too hard on yourself. Once cichlids get breeding, they really make a lot of babies. You will have another batch of eggs in no time. We all learn some hard lessons when keeping fish, especially when breeding. I'm sure future spawns will do just fine.

Girardinus Metallicus Not Doing Well With Endlers And Guppy Hybrids

Mine will happily enter a net. Or swim into my hand. I zip tie foam to my water changer so they can't swim into it, they still try though.

Girardinus Metallicus Not Doing Well With Endlers And Guppy Hybrids

Endlers are ravenous little beasts. They would be scary if they had teeth. I've seen mine swarm 5 -6 inch male BN plecos and steal food. They also try to eat my hand when I clean the tank.

    Black Bar Endler

Endlers live in higher temperatures in the wild. It's what they have evolved to live in. You could be shortening their life spans by keeping them cold. Temperature does play a role the ratio of male to female. There is good scientific research into the subject. With most live-bearers, warmer...

    Black Bar Endler

75 is pretty low for Endlers. I keep mine at 80. In the wild, Endlers live in 80+ water. It's a natural barrier that keeps guppies out of Endler territory. The females aren't ruined if an undesirable male mated with them. You'll just need to keep a good male with them and he can replace the...

    Black Bar Endler

What is your temperature at? I've never had issues with my Endlers being worried about males in the tank. This thread shows my 55 gallon Endler tank Endler Colony I've got a couple hundred. How often do you feed?

    Black Bar Endler

    Flowerhorn Never Ending Hunger?

Feeding by belly bulge really only works on small fish.

Were they fighting after you moved the fry? If not, they could most likely stay together. Although, they would probably make more babies.

    Flowerhorn Never Ending Hunger?

My largest flowerhorn bites at the glass when he begs, he can smack the glass pretty hard. Begging is very normal for flowerhorns. It's important not to give in, it's unhealthy to overfeed.

    Metricide 14 Vs Excel

14 day is the exact same thing as excel, just a little higher concentration. The 14 day has no additives, I'm pretty sure the 30 day has a surfactant and should not be used in aquariums.

    Metricide 14 Vs Excel

I use metracide 14 day. Don't have shrimp though. Doesn't metracide 30 day have a surficant in it?

My boys stick their heads out of the water all the time. This thread has a recent picture of my big guy Red Dragon He lets me touch his head - It's squishy. You are going to have to move the fry at some point. They should grow faster if moved to their own tank. Clean water helps them grow...

    Platinum Koi Guppies

Nice fish. I was just looking at an auction of some koi guppies and thinking about getting some. I like that the females keep the koi markings.

There is no guarantee that the parents will continue to care for the young. Especially I'd they have another batch of eggs. If you are looking to grow them out, I'd move them. Brine shrimp is good if you have the time to cultivate them.
  28. C

    An Accidental Flowerhorn Owner :)

I've been reading some research papers that show a significant growth and color improvement in fry when fed brine shrimp over commercially prepared food. Are you going to keep the fry with the parents or move them to their own tank?

    Blood Parrot Cichlid Food

I've been feeding my BP repashy. It's way easier for them to eat. My BP utterly loves repashy, gets to it before the Jack Dempseys know whats going on.

I've never had a canister leak. They are sealed up very well. If you loose power, they just stop circulating water.

    Question Guppy Strain?

If you are looking to be serious about breeding, buy an established strain from a breeder. Pet store guppies will not throw consistent fish.

    Aqueon (all Glass) Pine Stands

I got the 55 used in 2012. Not sure how old it was when I got it. It's been solid and haven't had a problem. The wood doesn't swell if it gets wet like particle board does.

    40g Breeder-flowerhorn

It's a very common practice to start a flowerhorn in a smaller tank and upgrade as they grow. Nothing wrong with it.

    40g Breeder-flowerhorn

You can probably do 4-6 months depending on how fast the flowerhorn grows.

    Jack Dempsey With African Cichlids

    Tankmates For Freshwater Snowflake Eels

Freshwater snowflake eels are not freshwater fish. They need to transition to brackish. They are not a good choice to mix with your current fish. Oscar's need a 75 gallon as adults for a single fish.

    Bp's Tankmates?

What size is the tank, any other fish besides the blood parrot? Male blood parrots are sterile. If you get a male convict and you have a female blood parrot, there's nothing you can do to stop them from spawning if that's what they want to do. I've seen convicts breed in tanks at walmart.

    What I Feed My Guppies

I'm a big repashy fan. It's easier for my fish to eat over pellets. Nothing like chewing gum in any way.
