    Took The Plunge!

After the job they did, I am planning on possibly taking 3-4 back to the LFS store I bought them from or rehoming them. Id rather get them out before they starve to death.

    Took The Plunge!

Hi Everyone, I wanted to thank everyones help thus far. Your comments and suggestions have allowed me to gain the experience and confidence to up my game a little. My 75 gallon tank finally finished cycling this weekend and I added the first livestock to the tank. I started with the cleaning...

    Lighting Questions For Plants

Thanks for the compliment! I found a piece of driftwood that had the approximate "tree" shape and did small dabs of superglue and held the moss on for a few seconds. After a while, the moss grew like crazy and you couldn't see the glue anymore. Here is a brand new pic and an established pic.

    Lighting Questions For Plants

Ok, I reached out to a friend for help on a inexpensive adjustable option for my lighting. I am hoping this will allow me to reduce my lighting intensity and not have to buy a whole new light. Its all thin walled stainless steel so it wont rust and weighs less than a pound. When in doubt, go...

    Lighting Questions For Plants

I have another thread that youve been helping me with regarding my Bacopas. They are shooting up and the tops are looking ok as you can see in the pic, the lower leaves arent doing as hot. Yellowing, wilting etc. Like you said earlier, its a balance I am trying to find.

    Lighting Questions For Plants

Its funny you mentioned the Thrive, I decided to go the ThriveS route for the 75 gallon I am setting up. I may just cut my losses with the MC and get other plants that will work better in a low tech tank. Thats Bacopa Caroliniana in the back. Its still not as happy as it could be, but still a...

    Lighting Questions For Plants

I was worried about that too. I was tying to keep it low-tech and noticed the new growth under the substrate against the front of the tank is nice a green, which confused me a bit. If all else fails, I guess yank out the Monte Carlo, and find a bunch more non-carpeting low level plants to help...

    Lighting Questions For Plants

Hello, I have a 5.5 gallon aquarium thats been going for a few months. All of the animals look happy and the shrimp are breeding like crazy. The problem are the plants. I started having green thread algae ourbreak and i started tweezing out as much as I could, dialed the lights back to 7 hours...

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

I appreciate it! You actually answered a question I had floating around in my head, Ive seen them branch out, but wasnt sure when that would happen, thanks!

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

Here is a pic from today after it cleared up a bit from the water change. The second pregnant RCS had her babies, there are little guys everywhere!

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

Yep! Thats the Pothos plant you recommended for me in the video post I made with the Twitch stream. I gave the tank a little trim and one of the smaller Bacopa was uprooted in the process so I moved him up front to the right. Ill take another pic tomorrow after the water clears up a bit

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

Its an Aqueon 5.5 Gallon, Nicrew 12w light, 3 Male Endlers, 14+ RCS, 2 Amanos, 1 Nerite and a lot of baby pond snails (I crush those and feed them to the rest of the tank). There we go, 20% water change and new filter!

That might also be my problem. When I cut them the last time and moved them, I pulled them all out cut them and replanted the healthiest looking ones. Shot myself in the foot I may have...

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

Lol, yeah. Every few days I go in there with a pair of long tweezers and pull the long strands out. I pulled some out on Monday, they grew that long in two days

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

Another note with the hair algae, I have a "tree" that has an unruly mane of Christmas Moss on it right now. I was going to trim it a few weeks ago, but when I went to start and disturbed the moss, a bunch of shrimp babies popped out. The hair algae is all over the Moss, but I am unsure if I...

The lights I can do easily by tweaking the timer. For the ferts, I have both the Seachem Plant Pack Fundamentals and the Enhancer NPK. There are also the Seachem root tabs under there as well. The prefilter sponge is actually going to be replaced today. I am going to take the "green" one and use...

    My Bacopa Isnt Quite Happy

Hi Everyone, My tank is a few months old and I am still dialing in the water perimeters. The lights are on 8 hours a day, but I am having trouble dialing why my Bacopa isnt looking as healthy as it should be. You will also notice another issue in the picture, that nice floating hair algae. If...

    Planning Out 75 Gallon Tank

Hello Everyone, I am in the process of planning out my 75 gallon tank so I can size up my vision of my 5.5 gallon tank. I had an idea of the components I needed, but it never donned on me how to figure out how much substrate I am going to need. I tried the Eco-Complete in my 5.5 gallon tank...

Had An Idea While At Work

Ok! I was able to wander around the building I work in and found someone with a Pothos plant that seemed a little neglected. Hopefully it will like being in the tank! It looks a little odd on the stream now with the lone stem jutting in from the upper corner

Had An Idea While At Work

Being such a small tank, I would be worried about the Pothos pulling too much of the nutrients from the water and affecting the Bacopa and Monte Carlo. My Monte Carlo is still getting used the tank. I thought I wasnt getting any new growth on it so I pulled a large browning clump in the front of...

Had An Idea While At Work

That was not a knock at all. I actually just had the "duh" moment like, "Why didn't I think of that?" The timer is currently set to 9am to 6pm (nine hours). Its starting to have a hair algae problem, but it may be due to me dosing with some phosphates. If I change my timer to go on at night, I...

Had An Idea While At Work

Hello everyone, I started a 5.5 gallon aquarium at work and on numerous occasions I have had customers tell me that I should stream it so they can watch it at their desk while they work. I thought about it for a bit and figured, why not! I don't have the ability to watch it at night yet, it...

    Monte Carlo Issues

No, its a small low tech tank and didnt want to go the co2 route. The Bacopa was purchased as a submersed plant. This tank is my experiment for a larger tank, this might be telling me that ill have to choose a different option as a carpet for my 75 gallon tank

Question Can I Cut And Replant These Or Not

Im not sure the type of plant either, but it has the same joints/root points like Bacopa and other stems. You could try cutting one below the joint and replant it to see if can take off.

    Monte Carlo Issues

Ok, I knew going into it this plant could be finicky, but I am intent on trying to make it happy. The MC has a brownish tint to it and the Bacopas lower leaves never seem...

    Cycling Confusion

Are you boosting your bacteria at all with something like Stability or Dr Tims One and Only? Also, how did you pack the filter media? Are you using the bio media that came with it, or are you using a different one like Matrix? If you are running tap water, how is your Chlorine content?

    Starting A Shrimp Tank

I started a small tank(5.5g) myself and so far, havent had any die offs. Tank is about 2 months old and the plants are still getting established for the most part. Crossing My Fingers For Shrimp Babies

I had given up hope and was going to start trimming the moss. From a distance it looked like there were some discolored spots on the moss, but when I looked closer, I saw them! They didnt get eaten! Looking closely, Ive seen 5-6+ hiding deep in the folds of the moss.

    Shrimp Bio Load Question

What about going for a larger species of shrimp like the Amanos. Even when small, they are already over twice the size of RCS. Maybe the bigger size might make it difficult for the Betta to eat it, or would you just be giving the Betta a larger meal?

Help Cannot Get Algae Under Control

I had this same problem in my 5.5 gallon. I started out running my lights from 8am to 8pm on a newly setup tank. During the cycling process the long stringy green algae exploded all over. Even with my RCS and Amanos in the tank, they couldnt keep up with it. I dropped the lighting time down to...

    Low Maintenance Fish?

Tetras are a good call. If you got small school of Tetras, a couple Amanos and couple Nerite snails in a planted tank, she should be pretty good. The tetras are omnivores and can forage around when not being fed. The Amanos and Nerites will help lower the maintenance a bit. This is almost...

    Need Help With Cycle

I am pretty new myself getting back into it, so I err on the side of caution. A friend hooked me up with this link on planning out a tank ahead of time so would have a good idea on what can go into a tank without too many problems. http://www.aqadvisor.com/

    Need Help With Cycle

This is correct. A lot of the HOBs claim to make it simple by allowing you to just change out your filter for a new one. The problem is all of your bacteria is in that filter and just as you get your bacteria built up, the filter is pulled out and swapped for a new one. Also, 5 Angels and a...

    Glad I Found This Forum!

Haha, thanks for the warm welcome folks. The first big mistake that I made is two words that might as well be a four letter word for most it seems, pond snails. I picked up some bacopa from my LFS and I guess I didnt clean it enough. Got to work today I see baby snails everywhere!
