What Kind Of Fish Is This?

If you're referring to the common Congo - Phenacogrammus interruptus, their coloration, finnage, and head shape are very different. Definitely not Congos.

    Surprise Zebra Danio Fry!!

I would start with very small amounts of the pulverized hard-boiled egg yolk and leave out the crushed flakes and/or vegetables (from my experience, the adults don't even eat that stuff) for now. Their mouths are very tiny at this point and the crushed flakes/ vegetables will easily soil up a 10...

What Kind Of Fish Is This?

Commonly, referred to as the Columbian tetra - they are a natural schooling fish and need to be kept in a group comprising of no less than six fish, the more the merrier.

Beamswork Ea Issue - Looks Pink

I have the (90cm) 36" version of this Beamswork. I've successfully grown Amazon swords and various Anubias under it without issues, however, it likely won't be suitable for more demanding plants. This is the blue & white LED and gives off an even, slightly warm tone. Natural: Moonlights...

    What Breed Should I Choose?

They are fine alone, but would be happy to be with a couple of others. In something like a 10 gallon, you could 5-6 males.
  10. Five 97

    What Breed Should I Choose?

Take a look here - Stocking List for 10 Gallons In something much larger (like a 200 liter tank), Green Terrors may work, but an 8-10 gallon isn't appropriate for one. Starting to think you either forgot to convert the liters to gal. or didn't read through the whole thing. EDit: Whoops, page...

    What Would You Add?

I think you may be able to get your current BN to get along with a new Rubberlip plec in a 4ft. tank. As I'm sure you're aware, fish can differ in personality - my one reg. brown BN is very aggressive to both conspecifics and non-conspecifics, however all of my past long-fin albinos always...

Oh, wasn't aware that was your QT tank.

    Otos In Ten Gallon?

I've done it too, but that doesn't make it appropriate. Of course you could stick "1 or 2" in a ten and without having them die on you. But isn't this forum in existence in an attempt to ensure proper care of our pets? Or at least the best care we can give our pets?
  15. Five 97

    20 Gallon Long

IMO, as CPDs are certainly inactive for a danio species and stay in the lower regions of the tank, the endlers could stay, without any crowding. But as suggested above, what if you kept the endlers in the 10 Gal.?
  16. Five 97

    Otos In Ten Gallon?

Not baloney and not what I'm saying, I made that point to imply that "1 or 2" isn't suitable. A 20 gallon is fine for a small group of 6+ Otocinclus.
  17. Five 97

    Hello From Princeton, Nj!

Welcome to Fishlore, Tyce! Glad to have you here.
  18. Five 97

    Otos In Ten Gallon?

IMO, a 10g isn't suitable for otos. In nature, Otocinclus are usually found in groups consisting of hundreds of individuals, they are definitely a gregarious, if not shoaling, species. I wouldn't keep them in a group consisting of less than six.
  19. Five 97

    Guppy Play, Mate, Aggression?

That too! But in addition, neons and cories are too active for a 10g - they would definitely work in the 20 gallon you are cycling though.
  20. Five 97

    Guppy Play, Mate, Aggression?

Occasionally, a guppy can turn out to be a jerk to other guppies, I find they do best in a group of three or more when this happens. Also, if you like to examine it, there are some minor issues with your current stock.
  21. Five 97

    20 Gallon Long

I think you could safely bring up the number of CPDs to 15, since they aren't even active and tend to stay near the bottom. Not sure who informed you about male CPDs being "very" aggressive towards each other, but I have multiple males in my tank and there is nothing 'severe' about their...

    Centerpiece For A 29?

Unfortunately, an EBA wouldn't work in this tank size. Opinions will vary, but IMO, a 29g is a little too tight for Pearls, if you're considering for permanent housing.

    Fish Identify

Unless this is a heavily planted tank in which the plants are drawing in all of the nitrates, the nitrates shouldn't be absent (from the picture provided, it looks like oppm, perhaps there is a slight orange tint?).

    Fish Identify

I think the test is indicating some ammonia, I would start on some 50% water changes. Also, is this tank cycled?

    Fish Id Needed!!!

NP. Agreed, the guy at the store probably didn't know what he was talking about - as mentioned, these are schooling fish and will behave most cooperatively and naturally in a group. Didn't notice this earlier, but if you're not specifically attached to it, I would consider rehoming it as isn't...
  32. Five 97

    Fish Id Needed!!!

@BottomDweller is correct. They reach a pretty hefty 2.5" - sometimes a little more, despite Seriously Fish & Fishbase having them listed as a slightly smaller. They tend to fin-nip somewhat and chase other fish when they aren't in a large enough group, and as they are also a schooling species...

    20 Gallon Stocking

This is a 20 Gallon High. Although, bigger tanks are always better, and longer tanks are usually better also, IMO, Skirt tetras would be okay in a 20 gallon tall. However, this would not go for the danios, as they're far more active and well-suited to a run-way sort of setup, a 20 gallon long...

An Unusual Question About Danio Fry

Congrats! How large is the youngster? Embers stay a lot smaller, and I would agree that they could be safely added earlier than adult Zebra danios. As mentioned above, 0.75" is right about the size at which I also usually introduced fry into the adult tank, at that size they are fine with...

    Algae Id And Help

That is indeed Cyanobacteria, Nerite snails will not eat this stuff. Fortunately, I've only had one case of it, and it occurred in a tank I was already planning on breaking down. Cyano thrives in in conditions with a large amount of nitrates and phosphorus, water changes and carbon filter media...

The Name Game (harlequin Rasbora Id)

Well, like @Geoff mentioned, I believe the name 'Hets' is derived from the scientific name T. heteromorpha, to act a an abbreviation. You could also look up pictures of both fish on seriously.com for an extra visual aid.
  37. Five 97

The Name Game (harlequin Rasbora Id)

As said above, Harlequin rasbora are Trigonostigma heteromorpha, Lambchop rasbora are Trigonostigma espei - two different species. If you look at them, the marking in the center is more narrower and elongated in Lambchops, while it's much wider in Harlequins. Lambchops also possess more of an...

36 Gallon With Electric Blue Acara?

A standard 36 Gallon Bowfront aquarium is 30" long (15"W x 24ish"H), is this what you have? If so, I would personally say it's too tight for an adult EBA. IMO, they need a 3ft. long (36") tank minimum for permanent/long-term housing.

    Overstocking

Yes, the Pandas like cool water. And IMO, these specific apistos do best above 78F, a lot warmer. The fish may be happy, I just wanted to let you know about the temperature incompatibility, and what could result from it, keep in mind, I'm just giving you my opinion as you requested in your...
  42. Five 97

    Overstocking

Yes, and in other words, they are fish that prefer cooler temperatures. Not to nitpick, but I meant my mentioning the range below 75F to be interpreted as the ideal range for Pandas.
  43. Five 97

    Overstocking

To my knowledge, A. agassizii prefer temperatures ranging in the warmer end of the tropical spectrum, and while the Harlequins and Black Neons are fine, this doesn't go too well with the Panda cories which need to be kept below 75F. Keeping them in higher temperatures will eventually shorten...
