So finally had a conversation with hubby about where I want to put 75 #2 and he informs me that he didn’t think the floor would support it. Waaah.
So I did a thing and purchased a 40 breeder at Petco for 50% off.
Then hubby informs me that he needs to take a look at the floor joists again (which...
So as I was going through all the free stuff that came with the free tank, I also found an aqua clear 300.
If it works, any opinions on using the aquaclear 500 + the 300 instead of the Fluval 307 + aquaclear 500.
Or would it just be personal taste at this point?
Oh and I run a tank specific...
It’s a color variation of Puntius Semifasciolatus. They supposedly have a more glittery sheen to their scales.
When they were young, they were quicker but they are definitely slower as they have gotten older and fatter lol!
I wasn’t sure who was eating their tails but then watched a loach...
If you can find a 55 or even a 75, that would be perfect!
I’m in the process of setting up a new tank for my golden diamond barbs because the Queen loaches are eating their tails. So the 75 will then be stocked with 7 Queen loaches and 16 Tiger barbs. I have some in quarantine...
I was away all week and came home to a tank that is totally leak free. Yay!
I’ll leave it full until the middle of the week when I’m off and drain it and clean it. And start getting all the hard scape items and the sand ready.
The consensus on my filter thread is that the Fluval 307 canister...
No worries! We all purchase fish without doing proper research first. That is kind of how mts (multiple tank syndrome) starts lol!
So yep, Tiger barbs absolutely thrive in larger groups and as large of a tank as you can afford and well planted.
I have 7 Tiger barbs in my 75 g currently and 9 in...
Thank you. I’m guessing my problem is some sort of nutrient imbalance.
I use remineralized RO/DI water that I mix to a dGH of 6. But weirdly, the TDS of that is about 280. My tanks run at about a TDS of 290. I have no idea if that is too high but not sure if I should decrease the dGH or not.
So my new free tank turned out to be a 75 g, not 45.
I jumped on a good price for a Fluval 307 before I picked up the tank. Oops!
Free tank came with an older aquaclear 500 hob.
I know neither of these filters would be adequate for a 75 by themselves but what about in combination?
I could return...
I sure will!
I already have a partial scape picture in my head. But I’m sure I’ll tweak it once the Hardscaping is in the tank. I already have a seasoned piece of driftwood and rocks to go in it.
I do need to figure out filtration. Since I *thought* I was getting a 45, I purchased a Fluval 307...
Thanks! You’ve been very helpful!
I’m going to treat it as cyano. I have the good article ( thread?) that’s been posted here using H2O2 saved so I’ll dig that back up.
Meanwhile, I’ll be away this week but I’ve premeasured the fish food for hubby to feed. And they will only get fed once a day...
Maybe. If it doesn’t leak. Because I need another large tank to care for!
My friend said she had a 40 g tank to give me; older but never used. I recently realized I needed to remove the golden diamond barbs from my first 75 g. The Queen loaches are eating their tails. Sigh.
Hmm, to me it seems more like how diatoms act. It rubs off easily and I can’t say it is in sheets or fibers!
I’ve read that one cause is high phosphates and over feeding. I probably do tend to over feed this tank a bit to try to make sure the loaches get to eat.
I recently switched to a...
Most of this algae is on one wisteria. Not on the rocks, driftwood, or sand. To my eyes, it looks blue-green in color but in these pictures, I think it looks more green. Meh. I trimmed all of it off the wisteria and removed a gazillion handfuls of the small floater (not sure if it’s duckweed or...
Howdy fellow Marylander!
Did a quick search on cyano and this stuff doesn’t seem to act the same. It’s not fast spreading and isn’t slimy or smelly. Tank nitrates stay at 10 and sometimes below. I haven’t done a phosphate test in a while but the last one was whatever the reading up from 0 is...
I don’t have a current picture but my water wisteria and a couple of the other plants are getting an algae that is blue-green in color. It’s only on the plants and isn’t spreading very quickly. The tank smells normal.
I’m planning on trimming most of it off during maintenance tomorrow but...
I have glo Tiger barbs. But they are just the greenish ones. You don’t really notice it too much under the regular lights. But they do fluoresce under the blue light. The ones in the back are green tigers. They look a bit blue under the sunrise light.
Sooo, free tank is actually a 75 g! Cool! The stand is a nice, solid homemade stand. Also got 2 HOB filters. They look like aqua clears but I have no idea what size. And there is a plexi glass canopy and a glass one.
So a 75 opens up a ton of stocking possibilities. :D
And I’ll need a lot more...
Oh and the small fish in the video of the quarantine are Laubuka dadiburjori.
I put them in there to hold the cycle. I had 4 but only 2 left. I’ll put them in the new tank and then wait for them to be back in stock to add more.
Moved the Petsmart tiger barbs to the 75 and added 3 regular and 6 platinum green tiger barbs to the quarantine tank. I looooove them! I’ve missed them the last 2 times they were in stock. Third time is a charm lol!
All Tigers in both tanks are doing great so far.
I’ll pick up the free tank...
Yay for you!!
Today is my day off and it corresponded to the LFS an hour north of me getting platinum green tiger barbs back in stock. Just got back and am acclimating them plus 3 regular ones to the quarantine tank.
Hrmpff. My picture won’t load.
January 2018. I joined 4 months after deciding to just get one tank that was being given away. But it came with waaaaay too many fish.
I’ve also changed my username. Started as Refishkeeper. That was too generic lol!
It says a good many of us need glasses! ;)
Cute addition! I love the colors Plecos come in now. I haven’t added any cause I’m afraid of their ability to produce copious poop lol!
The barbs look great!
I’m hoping to be putting some platinum green TBs in quarantine tomorrow.
The fish store north of me got them back in. I’ve missed them...
Oh wow! How cool!!
On a related loach note, my botia darios are hoodlums!!
I discovered it was they that are eating the tails of the golden diamond barbs.
Now I need to set up another tank to separate them. Darn lol! :D
