I live 50 miles in all directions of these places. And i can't run out there anytime soon. I did confirm that the hose water is 6.6 but my sink water is 7.6. So this is definitely a pipeline issue.
We have no pet stores that carry this stuff so i am doing the best i can with what is here.
I will be investing in that, definitely. I could not find any crushed coral or any of the things others suggested after my forum search.
I got some api ph raiser. Using it in extremely small doses over the next few days on the other tanks. They are reading 6.6 as well but those fish seem fine...
Same as before. Active and not surface breathing. She is just still mouth breathing and skittish. There has been a lot of changes and activity in this tank. So maybe that is why she is doing this? My last pregnant females did this a bit for about a week on and off before birth.
I should have ph...
I will be experimenting with this, but holding water that long for so many tanks is not viable. There is nowhere to put it or anything to hold that much water.
I think my best option is to get these tanks cycled to handle that ammonia. I have the first half of the BB housing done. I will get the...
Good news. After this morning's tests the ammonia has stayed at 1ppm even after feeding. The 20g is showing 0.25 nitrite so i thing BB soak on the filter media and biomax rings helped.
I have a pregnant green spotted guppy in there who is mouth breathing more than i would like, but i think she...
I have some half blue guppies who are almost 5 weeks now. The female i identified easily at 4 weeks, but the males still have no visible gonopodium.
The females have visible gravid spots.
The endler in the last photo is the same age and has a very visible gonopodium already.
Are half blue...
I know it was overkill but i wanted be careful. I have been told the BB can die when exposed to air. I also wanted to introduce more of it into these items with the soak.
Especially since i was using the hose to refill the tank. I did not want anything in there until sure it was dechlorinated. I...
That link is an example. The one i am looking at says up to 20g, but it will be used more to house the BB along with the aqua-tech filter i already have in place
My question was would the one in the link suit my purposes?
I will be putting the biomax ceramic rings in the aqua-tech as well
I did as you suggested and after a 90% then a 50% it is finally down to .50-1ppm. I used the prime. I stored all filter media, decorations, and plants in a bucket of old tank water.
Using some of the better tank water i used to hold the fish i have the filter media soaking with a dose of API...
I will do as suggested. I cannot give up because my 11 year old son loves these fish and he is the one wanting to breed and sell them. He does help but i am fast approaching the point where i will not be able to help him. I don't want him saddled with all these water changes alone, but preterm...
With the way the ammonia has been i was doing 50% changes daily. And the levels will not drop. I guess detoxifying while i get some zeolite and bio media is my only option. I am so frustrated i am about to just give up. My two cycled tanks have crashed and now i am fighting the ammonia daily. I...
My issues with cycling are probably pretty well know on here right now. My question pertains to this sponge filter.
Would something like this work for what i need? I still want to replace the cartridges with the ceramic media
It is a 20 gallon and i have an aqua-tech. I gave most of what the guide suggests just not the ceramic media. I am using an old whisper 10g filter for the ammonia scrubbing material and double filtration for now.
The ceramic material is going to be a must. I think i killed my cycle after removing the ammonia scrubber and did all those water changes. I have ammonia but no nitrites. I am double filtering now. One with a bag filled with the ammonia scrubbing rock media.
I am using api ammonia locker right now but the ppm just keeps going up. I have 24 day old fry in a breeder box, 3 adult females, and 10 four week old fry?
My other two tanks are not quite ready for use yet. I did a few 50% water changes over the last few days due to a potential columnaris scare
So clean it in the tank with the fish?
And why was my cycle fine when i ran it without the cartridge when i was treating it?
Sorry i am just frustrated and not understanding why this is happening. I have put in a new filter after treatment with furan 2 an it was fine. I cleaned that cartridge...
Okay so i had to clean my cartridge because the water was not flowing well due sludge build up.
Now though my ammonia is surging out of control again! All i did was take it out and clean it in the sink. Can anyone help explain how to clean without breaking the cycle. This is the second time this...
It looks like the beginning of saddle back. I have the guppy separated and i did a 50% water change.
There are little white dot like bugs that were all in my java moss. I shook it out and removed it. I am letting the guppies eat these bugs.
My water parameters are practically perfect and yet i find another 4 week old guppy with the faintest of white splotches on one side. This is a week after i treated the whole tank with furan 2
What am i doing wrong?
Ph 7.4 - 7.6
I have a female who started birthing at 8 a.m. it is now 5 p.m and there are only 3 fry. I put her in the breeder box when i saw 2 fry this morning.
I have to have her in the box being there are a lot of fish who will eat the fry. I cannot move her to a new tank either being they are not ready yet
Yeah. I hate doing this to her but the other fry in the tank are just 4-5 weeks and just big enough to hurt new babies.
I am having to re-cycle my other 2 tanks due to complications. Only safe option
I turned the tank lights off in hopes of easing her stress
Nitrites have shown up now at 0.25ppm in both 10g tanks. I have my guppies in the 20g since it has been cycled to the point of being able to handle the ammonia load from that many fish.
I have also been putting a little bb every other day in to help this process
I use the api test kit. I may have over dosed. When i had nitrites showing i thought i was supposed to add more ammonia to keep things going.
The whisper filter is gone now. After all the issues it caused i feel better just going with the aqua tech since i can follow the dyi guide for...
I found the source of the bad smell. It was that whisper filter. It is not made to bed taken apart so there is a section gacked up with sludge and dead plant matter. It might have also been playing a part in the ammonia spikes.
I changed the water out in the 10g and put it back in. The ammonia...
Okay i am using pure ammonia that is made for this and i started with 4-5 ppm.
I tested today and it has jumped to 8ppm
Will this keep the tank from cycling? I have yet to find nitrites in the last few days. It was .25 on the nitrites then it went to zero
It is from fluval it is supposed to help with ammonia. It is in the form of little rocks.
I don't want you guys thinking i am ignoring what you all have said i am putting all of your suggestions into play. Including the sponge.
I will rinse the cartridges from now on and see how that helps.
