What Size Submersible Pump For Water Changes?

I've seen the vertical lift ratings and assumed If want to go for more lift vs. less. I think I might just get one that seems far more powerful than what I might need and go from there. I'd be nice if I could drain 50 gallons or so in a few mins. That's really what I'm looking for.

What Size Submersible Pump For Water Changes?

I was thinking the same thing but then get discouraged when I read some of the reviews on amazon. Pumping the water out is one thing, but through the length of hose I'm talking about might be another. Just not sure.

What Size Submersible Pump For Water Changes?

Does anyone know how strong of a water pump I will need to pump water out of a tank, through 50-75 feet of vinyl tubing, and up into a sink? Basically want to use a submersible pump for water changes and shopping has been confusing since most pumps seem to be designed as simply return pumps for...

Led Lighting For 5 Foot 120 Gallon Planted

Hmmm, ya I see the Finnex planted+ 24/ 7 has a 30 inch bar. 2 of those might do the trick.

Led Lighting For 5 Foot 120 Gallon Planted

Im sure theyre awesome. Wondering if 3 A160's would do the trick. The 3 A360's + the arm attachments at $50 a pop would be great but more than I can spend on 1 tank when I've got 9 going haha!

Led Lighting For 5 Foot 120 Gallon Planted

The Current USA pro plus seems solid but like you said, it might not solve the dark edges problem. Gotta weigh my options. I wonder if 2 24 inch fixtures would be better than 1 48 inch. This way I would control the spacing a little better. 3 of those Kessil A Series pendants would probably be...

Led Lighting For 5 Foot 120 Gallon Planted

I don't have anything that requires super high light so medium would probably suffice. I dose flourish and flourish excel a few times a week and use root tabs for the couple swords I have. That's really it. Pretty basic. Not high tech by any means. My budget is probably mid range also. Not...

Led Lighting For 5 Foot 120 Gallon Planted

Hello, Looking to eliminate the dark edges of my 5 foot 120 g planted tank. Currently running the 48 inch fluval 2.0 fixture. Works great but would be better for a 4 foot tank. Any thoughts on a better lighting setup are appreciated. Thanks!

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

Good advice. I can use my uninhabited 27 gallon that I use as quarantine for larger fry. Ya like I said, I'm super lucky I have 2 awesome local shops within 15 mins of me so I've def got some options. Hoping to get some batches of multipunctatus cats also once the cichlids start spawning.

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

So you actually move the holding female to another tank while she has the fry? Just wanna be clear on that. I had to stop at my local shop yesterday for something and I spoke with one of the managers. He confirmed that they would trade store credit for any pure bred fry I bring them. They...

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

Haha! That's awesome. So would I have to cover up filter intakes and so forth. Will the fry just feed off scraps? I'm assuming after they reach a certain size you would want to pull the ones you really want to keep and relocate to a fry tank right?

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

Still debating on whether or not I want to start breeding. I have 2 local shops nearby that are great. 1 specializes in africans and that guy is already breeding several varieties so I'm not sure they will want mine. The other could use some help in the African department so they may be open...

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

Ya most frontosa tanks I see are basically single species. Of course there are a ton of youtube videos etc out there with all kinds of mixed tanks. Seems like the other fish leave the fronts alone but then it's a matter of greediness during feedings. I'm running quite a few tanks at home so I...

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

I'm leaning towards peacocks. I'd rather not have to worry about mbuna aggression and what seem like strict dietary needs so much. As far as mixing lakes I would love to have a couple frontosa in there too but I've read mixed reviews about keeping them with other species.

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

Thank demeter. The rockscape is all lava rock so even if one did tumble I don't think it would crush anyone....hoping at least. I pushed the bottom rocks pretty far down and checked stability. Seems pretty good but we'll see. I agree with you on the mini cycle and shouldn't be a problem with...

Tiger Barbs As Dithers Not Working Out

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I decided to move the survivors back it their own 60g tank from whence they came. I also opted to move the jacks and green terror from the 125g back into my main 180g american cichlid tank. I'm coverting the 125 to an African tank. I had only moved the...

    African Cichlid Substrate Advice Needed

So I'm converting my 125 tank to african cichlids and contemplating swapping out most of the gravel, pool sand, flourite mix in there now to african cichlid sand/ substrate for the ph buffer. The ph in that tank is naturally high (around 8.0). My understanding is the buffer effect basically...

    Mystery Guppy Death?

I had a similar problem with fancy guppies. I have tetras and corys in the same tank some of which are quickly approaching 10 years old. However, I couldn't keep the fancy guppies alive. I got mine all from the same store at the same time so I'm guessing they just had some issues.
